Magico S5 or Sonus Faber Strads ...

Hi Anatta

I think it will be impossible to hear my ART monos on the Strads. Thank you for pointing that out. I have to believe my amps are up to the challenge but this is interesting. The gentleman who bought my my Dartzeel had Strads and I listened to that combo. It was wonderful. I think if the Dartzeel can handle it, my CJ gear can. I need to do more investigation.

The ART monos will probably drive the Stradivari with ease - the Alexia has lower impedance and a lower sensitivity and plays wonderfully with a pair of LP275's. BTW, the previous owner of the my (not anymore :() graphite Stardivari owned a NH108B in a large room and sold them in part because he loved the DartZeel system and felt the Strads needed more power.

Hey Guy's,

The S5's are getting very good. Big difference from 250 hours to 500 hours. They seem to be begging to be played loud. Sounds good at low volume also but they make me want to crank them up.

Joe, you've been on the road to nirvana for years! Me too! Let me know when you get here. It's a nice place! It's good to finally be satisfied. Make one last great decision. I'll be waiting for you. LOL

I've reached the road to nirvana when I purchased my pair of Martin Logan Summit Xs in 2009.

Great news David. Thanks for the update.

David…..So good to hear that. The demos that I've heard with the S1s and S5s were excellent. Hard to believe there could be that much change, but I experienced it myself when I first got my Ayre VX-5 amp. I thought it was a disaster. I left the room and let it play for three weeks. What a change when I listened again. I always thought if I didn't at least like something at the start, I couldn't end up loving it. Today, I love the amp.

The S5's are not really bad out of the box they just didn't really seem to put a big grin on my face. They were just kind of there. But that has changed and they seemed to really be coming together now. I'm grinning ear to ear now.

David, I can't remember if you said you'll be getting in the other S series speakers as well. Perhaps you already have them...

That's great to hear, David. What would you say is the biggest improvement since getting them?

The sound of the speaker out of the box just didn't seem to be as one, sounded like I was listening to multiple parts. If that makes sense . They also had a little harshness to them. Loud just kind of hurt. Now the individual parts of the speakers seem to be working as one component. The speakers are still very detailed , clean and dynamic but that edge they had is going away. The bass has definitely gotten better. They seem to really be opening up and wanting me to turn up the volume. Before I would turn it up and within seconds just want to turn it down. Now I just keep turning it up. Pretty vague description but they just make me want to listen more. Y'all will have excuse my east Texas way of describing what I hear.

Yes I will be getting a pair of S3's and I have a pair of S1's but haven't taken them out of the box yet. I have more demo speakers than electronics at the moment . I do have a pair of Pass XA100.8's on order that I hope they will ship in February.. I also have a Constellation Centaur stereo, Centaur mono's and Virgo II coming. I'm kind of going crazy with demo gear. But it will be fun.

I know that I'm going to enjoy it with you. :woot:

Dave. I think you are describing incoherent timing in the speakers as in everything is flat harsh & muddy at different times because the drivers are not capable of performing in their dynamic speed range until some time is put into the drivers & they free up & start to move/boogie!

Re: S5's have landed at Rhapsody.....available for demo

Based on my love for the Evos and every time I heard the Strads, I was in awe, I think I have found the answer.

I would go with the Strads if I were you. The CJs should have enough grunt to drive them.
