Magico M6

I wonder why M6 was only on static display in Munich? Perhaps there are some refinements in the works and the display example was not a final production ready version.

I did not see it and Yair Tammam told me they're still working on it.

Oh, I read a press report that it was going to be on static display.

I hope to hear them when I visit Magico on June 19th. Just not sure they will be finalized though.

Hasn't Marten been doing this for a while with the Coltrane?

So CF is stronger and has less resonance ringing than aluminum............interesting

The use of the word CF can mean many different things, not all CF uses in a product are the same. The only description of Marten construction method that I could find is “The carbon fiber laminate is two layers of carbon sandwiched together with honeycomb Kevlar in between”. That is very different then Magico description of a “0.6” solid carbon body”. A common thickness of one layer of CF is ~0.5mm. In that case, the Magico enclosure will have to be made of 60 layers of CF sheets in comparison to Marten’s 2 layers.

It's funny, all this talk of carbon fiber and NO ONE talks about the sound. That's the thing I noticed. It sounds different, and to my ears, grrrrrreat!

After seeing this speaker in person, I'm having a hard time getting it out of my head.

There are no straight lines anywhere. Seeing the stand in person really proves the pictures don't do it justice. When you look at the speaker face on, it has this gorgeous sculptured look. From every angle, it is just simply gorgeous.

Do I want a pair? F'ING HELL YES!

Mike,

Carbon fiber is a wonderful material from which to build a speaker cabinet. Extremely strong, stiff and light with excellent damping characteristics. Furthermore, you can tune the cabinet by varying the layup. They are already do this with carbon fiber guitars and can pretty much achieve any sound they desire. Before you dismiss them, take a look at this website, they really sound musical to my ears after hearing them a few times.

I wonder how much quan the S5 Mk2 would be if it was made with the M6's carbon monocoque cabinet & tripod support, but the same drivers & x-over? I'm guessing atleast $85k :disbelief:.

Did you not get to hear the M6?

No. They are still fine tuning the crossovers.

Alon won't play the M6 publicly until they are absolutely perfect. Then they will blow everyone over. He learned his lesson with the S7 prototype.

I was amazed to learn the Magico listening/testing room has a noise floor of 23db. Wow. You can really hear what the speakers are doing without added room influences. Much better than someone's living room!

How much did it cost to achieve that? :weird:
