Lumin D1 incoming!

Thanks Mark!

Question for the Luminites: Do you power off your Lumin or leave it on 24/7? How about the 15 minute or 60 minute "sleep" function?

I keep mine on 24/7, but when I add new music to the direct attached USB drive I power cycle it. Hopefully, this cleans up any memory leaks in the OS.

Thanks for the info guys. Leaving mine on 24/7 with display off.

I think I might be ruined now.

My intention was to run-in the D1 on my upstairs system since it's a solid state preamp and power amp setup then move it to my basement setup after the initial break in. Now, I'm not sure I can give it up and move it when that time comes. I can't believe I'm thinking of it, but I might have to purchase another D1 and SBooster for downstairs now.

Something that is impressive to me about this Lumin are the dynamics at low volume levels. Bass notes have a weight that I was missing with the Squeezebox streamer. Like vinyl, the D1 doesn't seem to hold back on dynamic swings if they're present in the recording to start. My burn-in USB thumbdrive contains a few freebie DSD files and they sound fantastic, very analog-like with great air around instruments. Well recorded FLAC or WAV or MP3 files sound as good as I've ever heard them produced using the D1.

Like I said, I think I'm in trouble having two systems in the house and one D1 / Sbooster. Dang.

Mike,

These Lumin streamers are addicting. I have the S1 and D1. Both are outstanding and super versatile. I absolutely love them and they are rock solid.

That's why the Lumin player and app are designed to support usage of and convenient switching among multiple Lumin players from day 1. For example, one can be renamed to LUMIN Upstairs, and another LUMIN in Basement. :audiophile:

Yes, very convenient. I just call mine Lumin-S1 and Lumin-D1 to keep them straight.

I'm very happy.

After 7 pages.....No pic.....:skeptical::D:hey:

Here's a couple of pics with bad lighting (no flash) as the flash washes out the display:

Speaking of displays, it appears the right side of mine in the text portion of the display near the "blue circle" is a bit darker than the left side of the text portion. Is this normal?

Yes, it's a fade-out effect.

Well Paul, since the Lumin has only been installed for a handful of days (today will be day 5) I've not listened to any records. LOL. That's not to say that digital will become my only listening medium now, but it sure is convenient. Having that convenience + the great sound that the Lumin delivers is certainly a bonus when listening to digital music. It might surprise some that I listen to digital (was the Squeezebox, now the Lumin) in my upstairs setup most all day, every day when I'm working from home. It's the evenings when I can stop work, visit the basement and unwind when I listen to my vinyl records.

Looking good Mike. I see you're listening to DSD. [emoji41] Nice. [emoji106]

Hi Mike, yes I'm enjoying the few free DSD downloads I've found. I have the DSD tracks running (with other tracks of various sample rates per Peter's recommendation) on my USB thumb drive as my burn-in music sampler that runs overnight or whenever I'm not home or listening.

All the various sample rates of music that I've been listening to sound great on the Lumin. When you guys have described digital that can be analog in sound quality, I now know what was being described.....especially with the DSD files. There's great sound stage definition; air around instruments and voices; and hall/venue ambiance queues that I've not witnessed with lesser digital playback like the Squeezebox.

This Lumin blows the Squeezebox completely away. I mean, the Squeezebox is also convenient but it never really draws you in to sit and listen. It's purely a background music provider. The Lumin on the other hand is providing music that you want to pay attention to.

Damnit this Lumin....

It sounds wonderful and I've now ignored my LP spinner for over a week. I guess I need to download a few DSD albums that I'm familiar with in order to compare the DSD sound with other mediums of a given album. I hope the DSD versions suck.
