Live recordings are hit or miss. I have a few decent ones and a few surprising ones like a Double Play Donovan's Greatest Hits.

My best sounding one would be Bela Fleck - Live at the Quick. I am surprised people fail to use Victor Wooten to demo speakers.

My worst sounding one would be an oldie and I still like the music, Triumph - Stages. Sounds like an AM radio played in trash can.

What are yours?

Harry Chapin - Live , One of the greatest story tellers of all time

can't say I have worst, gotta think on that one ..........

First couple that come to my mind is:

Brave Enough: Live at the Variety Playhouse - Sara Bareilles. Tremendous performance and very good recording.

Hell Freezes Over Tour - Eagles

I rather like Emiliana Torrini's live recordings with the Colorist Orchestra

No one has yet mentioned Eva Cassidy's Live at Blues Alley

Whenever I'm testing new gear I use Bela Fleck & The Flecktones "Live Art" album. The bass line in Sinister Minister is incredible.

Also AC/DC live. Thunderstruck on that album is so nostalgic I can hear differences.

Oh yeah, one I forgot that is also up there is Jessica Williams Live at Yoshis. I heard the track Heather for the first time at a Lampi-Pure Audio demo and was blown away.

Can't think of a worst but as far as best is concerned I will submit Emmylou Harris & Spyboy (LIVE); check out Calling My Children Home and The Maker.

Great thread. Working my way through some of the suggestions that I hadn't heard yet.

One recording that sounds great to me on CD and Blu-ray is Jeff Beck Live at Ronnie Scott's.

I actually love live recordings...when recorded well.

Can't think of of a bad sounding one right off the top of my head, but this one is the best sounding one I've ever heard. The epitome of a you-are-there recording:

Another one I found in the rack that sounds good is Mayisyahu - Live at Stubs with The Roots.
Brand X - Livestock is decent along with King Crimson - Absent Lovers.

Still in Day Care -- 2d post:

One of the best IMO: Neil Diamond - Hot August Night (Live from the Greek Theatre in LA; recorded in 1972).

Another one I found in the rack that sounds good is Mayisyahu - Live at Stub....
I saw them live at Stubbs. ca 2005, Stubbs had an audiophile-grade sound system you could hear for blocks. But it was tight. I actually went there for the system when they fresh installed the new stage then. not that big o deal but impressive. Actually it was impresive, and applauded. The band was good. Queens of the Stoners Age played soon after., or they were headliners. It goes so hazy now. Huge stage or maybe looked like it. hmm 25 foot wide? BBQ was passable but I do buy the jars at the supermarket. Mild and pedestrian but okay for dipping. Not gonna look one way or the other but nice to hear about Stubbs. ps. Emo's was where the rock was cookin.
