Anyone tried the Duelund Cu + Duelund Ag combination in the GG ?

I'm seriously considering upgrading from my Big 7 and this is one of the (non standard) options I'm seriously considering.

The regular GG comes with Jupiter Wax + Duelund Ag combination, so it is no slutch either, but I keep hearing the Duelunds Cu are more musical than Jupiter Wax.

Choices, choices, choices ...

Hi Adam,

I agree with you. I think I would want Dueland Copper caps over Jupiter Wax caps in either the B7 or the GG. I think Lukasz's diagram backs this up, as he feels the Dueland Copper are superior in the critical midrange and soundstage criteria.

I think this is a very complex question with many views to the answer
Tube rolling is immediate
Caps take weeks to months to show there true sound . Add to this our own views of what is better judged by who.
I for one like deuland but wonder just how much it takes to do an honest comparison in this proper
As I do feel the GGG worthwhile journey I will take soon . I would rather go with a past proven cap like deuland
I also like pcm and dsd direct as it bypasses some caps .

I've spent a lot of time with a lot of Lampis with various cap configurations and can solidly say I prefer the Jupiter Copper Wax to the Duelands. They are more natural to my ears, have better bass and seem to throw a tighter image. In fact, I recently had a non-Lampi product which comes with Duelands (Wells Inamorata Signature) built with big Jupiter Copper Wax instead.

Just one guys opinion...

Hmmm....someone with real world experience! Ok, I'm standing pat. Why fix what ain't broke.

Mike,

How do these sound compared to the Elrog 300B? Are they burned in yet? You have a most impressive tube collection!

Your GG looks beautiful. I think you have the most future proofed Lampi product they ever built.

Best,
Ken

Ken, thank you and let me tell you, there is a reason why the Western Electrics are the king. I'm hearing it now. First thing I noticed was bass. Meatier. Mids even better. I would say it sounds perfectly complete top to bottom and oh, especially in the middle.

The Elrog is a great modern 300b. But boy, the WE300b has that magic.

Thanks Mike,

It sounds like Western Electric NOS, whether it be 300B or 101D, are the top of the heap. I really like all the tube rolling options you have with your SE GG. You are having some fun! Since I've found out that my Soulution 520 preamp is unbalanced, I haven't seen any reason as of yet for me to go for a balanced B7 or GG. I would put the money saved towards a better tube set.

Best,
Ken

Ken, a bunch of us have been discussing this offline the past few days. We feel there are good reasons to go balanced, but there are also just as good of reasons to stay Single Ended. The purists definitely design around SE with the belief in the shortest path between all the pieces in the component brings out the best sound quality. And you have to wonder how many amps/preamp with balanced connectors aren't really Single Ended designs. Faux XLR.

That being said, there are counter arguments the other way too. My balanced gear is dead quiet no matter where I plug it in. My SE gear (AT for example) MUST be on a common ground to even come close to being as quiet as the Pass gear.

Where did you get this neat diagram from?

thanks ! I may stay with the stock Jupiter + Duelund Ag combination.

300b Elrog chatter here...some referring to the B7:
AudiogoN Forums: Elrog 300B vs Takatsuki 300B tubes

Mike, you really have gone whole hog : Vintage WE 300Bs?? my, my, my! Holy Grail tubes there.

Re: Bal vs Single ended.

We hae already recapped importance of whether the Chain is bully Bal or no. There is one other point to consider though...with Dac chips (PCM only in the case of Lampi) are ALWAYS balanced in output and unlike other analog sources like phono, tape, etc the natural output stage of Dac chips are NOT SE.

Thus a fully balanced chain with a fully Bal Dac (with dual mono DSD) may just have a purist advantage...food for thought?

So you consider getting the Bal GG with DSD-only? Wow...looks like a great move, plus being local, you could demo it with the Bal 211 amps and compare to your Bal MSB amps. I know you already run a fully balanced chain.
