I agree with the timeless part, but my Rolex needed costly service after the ONLY 2 year ( if i recall) warranty was over. BMW was the better analogy for sure;)

Berto, I'm sure Lampi is great products but my point of view was since the DAC's technology can change every year or even a following month its hard for consumers like myself can justify spending so much money on product they can obsolete in near future.

That's why we pride ourselves on offering cost effective upgrades. Lukasz is performing several upgrades at my home after Axpona. These are DACs , some 1.5 yrs old that will get the latest circuit upgrades and 256 DSD boards.

Computers and cars, really anything technology orientated, you choose on how "cutting edge" you want to be.

I love the liquidity PCM/Redbook on my Lampizator DAC, for others PCM is simply not good enough anymore.
 
I am just now looking to Lampizator DACs - can any expert tell me if the Big 7 uses the Anamero 384 USB input board?

Never had any desire to own a Rolex or BMX, but unlike Lampizator, they both have world-wide dealer networks and have been in business for decades.

Lampi has dealers in UK, US, Singapore, Rep of SA, Hong Kong, Russia, Aus/NZ and a few other places. Not completely global, but big for a small boutique office.

Rolex is a foundation and BMW is a conglomerate. Not really comparable and Rob is correct…I live in Gva and Rolex generally recommends a service stop every 3 years and its not cheap.

In any case, its all silly. You are free to be interested or not…not a debatable point.

I think the only difference between Lampizator and larger companies is that Lampi chooses to allow for inexpensive upgrades as they are discovered. Big companies don't. They work on larger scales of production, and cannot make changes as quickly. It would cost them too much to obsolete a large volume of chassis, PCB's, etc. They prefer to sit on their discoveries/improvements for a couple of years.....then introduce a "new" model. This requires us audiophiles to sell our "old model" at a substancial loss (usually 60% off retail or more).......and pony up full retail for the latest technology. I think this marketing strategy is much more costly to the consumer. It also does not allow for the timely updates to keep our gear at current state of the art.
Lampi owners can stay off the upgrade bandwagon, if they so choose. At least with Lampizator, the consumer has these options open to them.

That's good to know I need to hear them with my ears but no Canadian distributor and not sure what to do when I needed the update and service. the PS Audio can update via on-line does Lampi can do as well ?

Only for the Amanero.

Lampi is old schoool analog engineering for the digital world. Having heard the DS and other FPGA Dacs (I own a Chord EX) compared to a B7, you can keep the firmware update convenience, as they dont offer the same quality of sound that I like. YMMV.

Nth America is covered by Fred and Rob, so they would have to answer the question. I am in Europe, but outside the EU customs zone, so have similar "problem" to you but am not overly concerned. One day I will figure out how to step up to DSD256…
 
Paul, the Lampi Big 7 was in another league than my PS DS. As I said, like comparing a Classe amp to a Kondo or Shindo. The Classe amp is fine in its own right, but Kondo/Shindo....whole 'nother league.

And how was the B7 compared to a Kondo ?
