Lampizator Big 7 has landed

The Lampizator product stable still confuses me. I understand the model categories but there are so many options in each of the categories and the specification seems to be changing rapidly.

The Golden Gate looks like an exciting product but such a massive price difference to the stock Big 7. I don't get that especially given the component upgrade choices are not that dramatic. Needless to say, the designer is not so "Big" on the benefits of using "boutique components"...

Big 7/GG is not even a fully balanced box but I believe they are protyping that. Will that be the Big 8 Golden Gate?

Any reviews around? How would others rate the level of engineering? I understand that multi-layer PCBs are now in the current generation specification.

That seems good as I would think that PCB production would help improve the quality and consistency of the product, yes?

Ok. I'm the person who posted that classified on audiogon.

Why I was selling my Lampi:
My oversized gears (2 box L7, Tube Research Lab amps) was causing space issues in my smallish living room. Even though I was happy with sound, I wanted to downgrade to something small and simple. Hence, I wanted to go for SS dac and sell my TRL amp to go with an integrated etc. All of these to simplify my system and regain some clutter in my living room.

Why it's not up for sale anymore:
I recently completed my windows server 2012 R2 based music server. I use all the fancy Paul Pang stuff like V3 USB card with OCXO and dedicated linear psu for it, black and red SATA cable, motherboard with clock upgrade, music and OS ssd with TCXO clock, Teradak linear ATX PSU, custom RAM module Audiophile optimizer and HQPlayer. The jump in sound quality is so big, I think I've to invent new words to describe how I'm feeling. It's true that I was previously using Squeezebox Touch with linear PSU with several tweaks which is far from SOTA. But I was so surprised to see the huge leap in sound quality. This is stupendous. Lampi (and my TRL amp and Daedalus speaker) deserve the best upstream sources possible. I had absolutely no idea how much improvement was possible from a SOTA source. Yes, I believe my music server is almost 90% there to be SOTA. Using HQPlayer for PCM upsampling is as mind blowing as upsampling to DSD 128. I've never felt this much joy in my entire audiophile life.

So obviously, given the crazy improvement in sound quality, I do not want to experiment with the winning combination. My arrangement in my living room because of these gears is pretty uncomfortable but I've decided that is a price I'm willing to pay for this level of sound quality. So the Lampizator will stay. I still have the classified up at Headfi/USAudiomart I guess. If someone tries to buy it for a fair price, I may go for a Big 7 (doubt if it'd be an improvement given my L7 board is upto date by Lukasz and shares a lot of similarity with the recent B7) given that I like the look of B7 more. But I'm definitely staying in the Lampi family no matter what.

Thank you for the update Radiohead. I hope to have my balanced big 7 Lampi next week. So exciting. We'll have to find out more about your computer build. I bet it sounds great.

You may want to investigate Win10 (free) and the Uptone Audio REGEN device ($175)

I will definitely try Win10 when people like Phil has made stable optimization and there's more user feedback. And yes, I've already ordered my REGEN for the June 18th batch. :D

Norman,

How could I resist. I drank the Kool-Aid :D And it tastes great!

We'll talk ;)

Joe, a Bal B7 to go with the Bal 211 amps???? WOW..That will be impressive.

The key to the server will be Win10, not Win2012 and you MUST get a Regen device with it too.

See here:

Lukasz and Geoff (Sound Galleries-Monaco) will be offering similar Servers in the future...so look out for that.

You are set then…we just need to rush Phil to deliver version 1 . Hehehehe

Yes, but it seems you Koolaid has something extra. You added a Kicker (fully balanced chain with differential summator and no phase splitter). When will it arrive?

I think it will be in the USA this week. The 211's are either in customs or coming out of customs and maybe next week for delivery. I hope.

Do you think Lukasz could directly hardwire and retrofit a Regen USB regenerator board inside a Lampi? I would like such a solution in a GG, perhaps even as a selectable mode of operation.

Joe,

Congratulations! The Lampi balanced Big 7 and balanced 211 mono amps should sound supremely natural on your Stradivaris. I'm thinking about possibly getting the balanced Big 7 myself sometime next year. I'll be anxious to read your impressions of it.

This should get you in the mood for your incoming gear:

Thank you Ken. I am so excited. Another member that I know of with a balanced Lampi and 211's is blown away by the combo. I know I will be very happy. Hopefully I will be up and running late next week.

Stay tuned.

Thank you so much for the youtube link. Sweet!

Yes, if you supply one.., I guess its doable. The problem is that the next Regen delivery date if ordered now is July!!!

I asked Alex, but he is not interested in OEM supply of crude Regen PCBs at the moment. I guess he is too busy playing catchup with back orders to consider OEM supply any time soon, and that is assuming he would be interested at all.

The beauty of this approach, which I obviously thought about for myself is that Lukasz could run a Linear power supply line to the Regen internally, so optimal clean power would be assured.

Wow, feedback already. I am very interested in the feedback for this fully balanced combo, so polease share what they said if you can. If I hear anything, i will reciprocate.

Also interested if you get those Elrog 211s to hear if they improve on the stock tubes.

Hi Joe,

Which capacitors is your Lamp being built with? Do they use the same as the ones for the SE version?

Thanks!

You know, I am not sure. Probably Dueland?I did not spec out the DAC, it became available when the prospective buyer went to a Golden Gate instead. I could not resist, so I bought it. I am sure I can make some upgrades along the way.

I am looking forward to it. Another friend with a single ended Big 7 borrowed some Elrogs. The performance upgrade was obvious once they went in and that was going from Psvane WE replica 300B's.
