Kii Audio - Three

View attachment 13120

Why it's important to come back to rooms multiple times. The Kii folks removed a CD transport and DAC and went right from the laptop to the Kii speakers and the difference was not subtle. Sitting listening to Ella Fitzgerald. Her voice is sweet and the stand-up bass is realistic. Cymbals sound real.

And I might add...no use of room treatments either to get this great sound.

The Kii also has adjustability for location in the room. The wonders of digital tech. We couldn't have done this as well in the analog domain.

See Mike's comments on the second day.

While there may have been additional DA / AD steps when using the PS Audio DAC to drive the Kii Three, it should not have made a big difference. As others earlier have said, they ought to have recognised if the sound quality was up to mark, or not. Even if there was an AD stage for the analog sources, the sound should be relatively transparent. To draw a comparison, the phono input on the Devialet, even when digitised, sounds good and others have reported the different flavours of various DACs used to drive the analog input of the Devialet, even if not the optimum way to do things, can be discerned.

Oh well, the proof is in the listening when they arrive at my dealer.

... the Seas DXT tweeter is a good tweeter but nowhere near the top of the food chain. I don't like their faceplate/waveguide design with the intentional diffraction rings to boost sensitivity and provide some directivity control. It works in those ways, but also introduces significant and measurable energy storage.

Agree 100%.

Imo using diffraction is the wrong way to get pattern control. The slightly delayed re-radiation off the diffractive discontinuity has a psychoacoustic downside that imo outweighs its pattern control advantages, and I say this as a pattern control enthusiast. I really wanted to like that little DXT tweeter, because I really wanted to use it. And I don't think its issue is something that can be fixed by DSP.

Unless you have a way to DSP a cheap aluminum dome tweeter to make it sound like something else... ;)

I had a listen to the kii today and thought they were impressive. Sounded big, and imaged in ways I have never heard before. The bass imaged like the mid and highs and after hearing it i realised other speakers were not imaging in the same cohesive way.

Our first pairs arrive Monday, it has been a long wait, but I am excited to hear them!
I am going to set up a streo pair, and a multi channel system using Illusonic's IAP processor.
Morethuoghts Monday!

That's great Keith! Please keep us posted. Our first pairs will arrive in a couple of weeks as well.

Still like the Illusonic? Good.
Very nice tech!
It he Illusonic processors are the best piece of equipment I have ever used, without question.
Not only do they do everything and one processor replaces five or six boxes they are also technically excellent and they do thins that nothing else can do,
Depth, immersion, brilliance, up sampling two channel to multi channel instanr multi channel audio .
And you get the expertise of Christoph Faller to create your room EQ, he really knows what he is doing.
Christoph's EQ and the Illusonic iAP have created the finest sound I have ever enjoyed in my listening room.
Highly recommended.

Hi guys,

We got a pair here in the store... Surprisingly good speakers, specially after all the lackluster performances at the numerous shows.

It definitely doesn't sound like Class D, which is a solid plus in my book :) They even sound different than the Mola-Mola stuff, which comes from the same designer!

Bass is indeed fantastic, specially if you consider the limited size of the cabinet. Of course, the useability is non-existant, with horrible controls and only 1 input (and AES/EBU at that... C'mon, it's 2016, anybody can do USB these days...)

The one input is switchable, and AES is the connection you would want , Pro audio products dont have archaic single ended connections or any 'knobs' that might break off.
Keith.

You disagree that AES and Balanced connections are not favoured in pro audio designs?
Bruno is known to to be an advocate of balanced connections he is hardly likely to fit RCA connectors.

Please tell us where he said that.
