Kef LS50 Wireless review.

Do we need to fill the stands with anything or are they solid? Since they don't have cable management, I guess Velcro strips to keep it looking good? I was thinking of the kef stands because of the color matching since I am going with the gray ones.

The big center post is designed to hold filler material. They are fairly light without anything placed inside.

KEF is selling an optional "inert filler" for these. They suggest 2 bags of the filler per stand (so 4 bags total for a pair of stands). The filler is $20 a bag.

Thank you Taylor, that is good to know on the updates. Those stands you have at your store with the chrome looks pretty cool. Are those also $400 for the pair or more?

Hey Mike....

KEF is not selling this style (with the Chrome sides). Not sure what the retail price for these in the US is (the Custom Design stands that I have been using in the past are all black).

As an update to this Mike, KEF actually is sort of selling a version that looks similar to this (contrary to what I just posted). There is another new stand they are calling the Reference 1 Stand (GFS-R1), that looks very much like the stand that you posted, however it has 4 large columns in the middle, versus the single in your picture. These stands are available in the black/chrome color only, and will run $800 a pair (with the inert filler standard with them).

Thank you for all the good information. That certainly gives lots of options for stands. The last stands I had were Chicago speaker stands which are not in business anymore. I filled the columns with lead shot. Probably not a good idea these days.

I was thinking the same thing as $80 to fill your stands seems kind of crazy to me. I've had fine luck with dry sand or even easier, although it sounds gross, cat litter. You just need weight. Lead shot would be optimal but some ecologically-minded people are against it.

I got the Kef stands for the LS50 wireless. I went with the gray. They look much better in person vs the pictures I think. I was a bit surprised that the speakers rubber feet do not sit on the stand top platform. You can get either the front or back to fit. The stands did come with plastic isolation stick-on so I put them on the back bar and let the speakers rubber sit on the front. The top is is just like the picture Sheltie1 posted. Since they really did not have any kind of instructions, I played around with different ways to have them sit on the stands and the speaker rubber on the front and the isolation on the back seems to be the most stable but, I have no idea if it is right or wrong.

I haven't had a lot of time to mess around with them this week since we are preparing for my daughters wedding ( 1 down 2 stepdaughters to go!!!!! ) I have not played around too much with positioning yet. I just plopped them down where I had my other speakers and after a quick hit of the advance dsp settings and subwoofer settings, I have found they are not picky on placement. I am sure I will play around with placement more but, they seem to do ok just where I plopped them down.

I called KEF. My stands did not come with any paperwork and I did not know to remove the feet off the speaker itself for the stands! Much better. I got the KEF inert filler also. I am not sure what its made of but, it seems like crushed granite. Support on the phone was not sure what the actual contents of it was. They also said they are working on the buffering issues since it has a pause or studder when it starts on some songs. The phone support was very helpful.

Mine are not broken in yet and I still need to clean up the wire mess but here is a pic on the KEF stands. They did not come with disks for the spikes and from the website, they are sold separately so I am using Herbies Threaded Stud Glider instead.

Looks great!

I've never been able to figure out what the filler is either. But I will tell you this...don't spill it on your carpet or it will make a mess!!! (been there, done that)

A couple of questions. 1 I called KEF support and asked about filling the stands. They said I should not fill the 4 posts only the center. I asked why but they didn't have an answer. Anyone know why?
2. Lost power and i had to re-do all of my settings. Is this normal? Usually products remember settings like my ht receiver.

Thanks.

1. Because you can't. The thin poles do not have an opening.

2. Not sure.
