Job pre2 - just took delivery

Hello jax. Thanks for the review!

Just wondering if you are using the Job Pre2 to the Job225 or a different amp?

Also which one do you like better PL or Job pre2 in your set up?

No, I am not using the job 225 amp. I'm tempted to get one but I worry that I need more power than it offers. I am currently using a wyred4sound st1000 mkii amp.

As for which one I like better, I have not yet decided. I really have a soft spot for the primaluna so it's not an easy decision. I am leaning toward the job pre2 right now. I typically do not keep equipment that is not currently being used in my system but I might make an exception and just hang on to both preamps for awhile. The job pre2 is definitely staying in the system for the forseeable future. As usual it really comes down to synergy, my system doesn't really require the rounder fatter sound of the primaluna to sound good. If you have particularly edgy ultra revealing speakers the primaluna is going to work better for sure. Or if you have speakers that lack the right balance in the bass department the primaluna can really make a big difference.

Yes, BASS! The pre2 seemed a bit bass light on day one. Now with some time on it, that is definitely not the case. Bass is full and deep.

The big question for me with any pre or integrated is 'how does the volume control work'.

Lots of pre's have SO MUCH GAIN that by the time you get the knob to nine o'clock it's ridiculously loud.

So how is the Job? Is there some useable action on the volume pot or does it get really loud right away?

Jaxwired, looks like you're out of a Job (pre), selling it after only a week??

So how is the Job? Is there some useable action on the volume pot or does it get really loud right away?
Not with the Job. The knob rotates more than 360 degrees and 0 to 360 degrees is not really loud.

I got mine in just 2 days - all the way from Geneva to Canada. Sent July 2 received July 4! Sounds great. My Mimesis 7 ( I have 2 of them)(1990) has more of a natural sound but very similar in that the Job Pre 2 still very much Goldmund in it's sound. Mine came without any side bolts to cover. I have let Job know about the oversight. All in all great sound for $1700 bucks.

Ive so far read 5 reviews on the Job Pre2 on this forum but it seems like the 3 reviewers that matched it with the Job 225 Amp didnt have a single complaint and love the sound vs the other 2 reviewers who didnt run it with job 225 said it lacked something compared to their other gear... strange but true.

Not to mention even on JOBs website they described as "specifically made to compliment Job 225.

Tough decision for me really since i am really looking for a preamp to go with the Chord Hugo DAC to JOB 225 out to Evolution Acoustics MicroOnes.

I am looking at the Primaluna Prologue Premium Preamp with KT120's or the JOB Pre2. Wish i had a listen to both.. must make decision in 2 weeks!!

I am using it with the Job and can only say that it sounds amazing (metrum octave dac). Any specific characteristics that you'd like to get more information on? I don't have much experience with other preamps though...

Hows the sound after some break in newbie79? Nice dac btw. Always wanted to try a NOS dac.
