JOB 225 2-channel Power Amplifier ... update ...

Welcome Gary!

You cant do PMs until you have minuimum 10 posts, so best to email GuitarDave to negotiate the transaction...

So thanks to wisnon and some guy named Joe with TAD speakers I have the Job coming from GuitarDave. Have the Bel Canto 500M mps driving the Pioneer/TAD speakers with a full Monty Phasure NOS1.

Now having XLR cables I need RCA. Back and forth we go with cables. You are killing me Norman:cool:

Enjoy the ride Gary…..

And word of advice, always have a pair of decent RCAs in your arsenal. Ya never know...

Congratulations. I am happy you were able to make a deal. Please keep us updated on how it sounds in your system. I love mine.

My buddy Rex recently bought a pair of the KEF LS50 speakers to go with his Job 225 amp. Over the last 32 years that I have known him, Rex has owned almost everything under the sun including every type of tube amp that has ever been made.

Rex told me last week that if he could have bought this KEF/Job set-up 25 years ago, he would still be using it today. Rex said his system is now that good. I am going to visit him the second weekend in March to hear.

I always wondered how the LS50/Job combo would sound. I expected it to be great but now that I read your friend loves it, I may have to actually buy the LS50's. Thank you.

Actually I am afraid to go hear his set-up. There will probably be a new pair of LS50's coming to me. Rex is very picky when it comes to his audio system.

No doubt you are scared. When I heard the Job, I was blown away. Everything I hooked up to them was/is outstanding!

Hi Joe,

I am wondering have you ever connected JOB to your TADs? I am asking becasue of your intial reservations due to info from manual about possible damage to the speakers.

I am noob about electrical workings of electronics so could somebody explain what is the real risk behind unprotected DC coupling to possible speakers damage? I have SS pre. Is it enough just to power the AMP last and shut it down first to be on a safe side or does that mean that even when power amp is shut down a DC can go through and damage the speakers?

Thanks

Hi,

I certainly did connect the Job to my TADs and YES!!!!! It's a wonderful pairing. When I received my first Job, since I was a little hesitant and unaware just how wonderful it was, I hooked it up to my $150 Pioneer Andrew Jones designed bookshelf speakers for several weeks to break it in and get comfortable with it. I was blown away and absolutely loved that combo. Those cheap speakers never sounded so good. I've used the Job on all my speakers without hesitation.

I think DC leakage can result from poorly designed preamps and dacs. I was comfortable enough with my dac, sources and preamps where I never felt I had a problem. Some here can instruct you/us on how to measure DC on the outputs, but I never worried once the first listening sessions had no issues.

Just to give you some perspective, I sold my Dartzeel and Burmester gear once I realized how inexpensive and wonderful the Job sounds. I'll wait for the laughing to die down but I feel the Job is competitive and I love having the cash in my pocket.

Joe,

You USED to be Job King with 2 amps, but my buddy in Boston just bought 3 and will triamp his system with them. He is over the moon. Did I send you his Sweetcord feedback?

The most shocking combo based on feedback is got is with (older) AvantGuarde Duos which my buddy had never been satified with in 12 years and was getting ready to sell. He is now extolling the virtues of the combo and is rethinking EVERYTHING.

Hi Norman,

Yes you did. I have the Sweetcords and use them. I'll have to compare to the other cords that I have but the Sweetcords are wonderful. I am eagerly waiting for the mono amps if Job ever releases them. Whatever Job ships, I am buying. I think tonight the Job will be set up on the Cornwalls. Sort of my poor mans Avantgarde set up. I can't wait. Richard will be shipping his passive next week and I just need to order the power supply. This will be fun! The day the Job arrived was when I started to reevaluate everything as well. It's a great amp.

Well if you decide to, there may be people waiting that I can ask...

BTW, my pal is going to Triamp his EP 2.7 setup with 3 JOB225s and he will also move to full Spatial computing and he upgraded his Beyma coax drivers to a new one from Clayton Shaw that was designed for open baffle config. It was already great sounding last year, so i can only imagine now!
