Jay's Audio Journey

Did he try Boulder vs bridged Luxmans ..?[/QUOTE

In the early days of the Journey, Jay raved about a pair of m900u's. To my knowledge, any comparison he has made to the Luxman since then would be based on memory, as I have been using those very amps -- in mono and stereo -- to happily drive any number of speakers, from YG to AG. I'd be surprised if he ever brought back a pair in the interim, though I admit I've only looked in on the Journey from time to time.

edit: PS And remember, there's been a bit of speaker churn since the early days as well ...

As far as I recall, Jay tried the 900 only as a stereo amp, as monoblock we are talking about different level of performance.

There are many more amplifiers I've had in here that I've not posted online about. That is footage that will be for future members once i create a subscription to behind the scenes of my channel.

I would hope so, for double the price. I assume, based on your comments of performance, that you own a pair of m900u?

Warmth should come from the recording not the stereo, dry , warm , full , cold , clinical, fast , ideally all of these traits should come from the recording being played, the correct setup will exhibits these traits when it is presented in the recordings and not the electronics.

aside , of course its necessary to select what you think delivers you there...

I find Boulder gets out of the way and allow this to happen , thin in , thin out ..!

Not to mention we all hear different due to age, physiological and even ethnical and genetic differences. So much so that various ethnic groups have strong likes or dislikes for certain genres and types of music. Hence the different "world music" sounds and structure.

But it is all good fun watching the videos of different gear and listening to one man's opinion on the subject none the less...

yes, i heard my speakers with other terrific amplifiers (pass 250.8, solution 5XX, Boulder 1161, MBL 9008 Stereo), found the 900's as monoblock to be my favorite combo for the price.

Jay has had many amps in his room, very few can be considered a direct or proper compare due to the many different setups from a continuous revolving system.

Amplifier timbre , drive and sonics are very load dependent lessor amps more so than the over built ones like Gryphon and Boulder. Eventually two categories will emerge , at different price points or performance scale ..!

I think Jay has a successful youtube channel devoted to constant component churn, not available to most of us. Some find it interesting and valuable in their journey and that's a great thing. Others might not find it as interesting or valuable. Sometimes I do, and sometimes I don't.

I feel the same way. I watch the preamble and introduction and then start to get a bit lost in the commentary after a few minutes and then lose interest and go back to watching Vietnamese barbershop YT videos.

Well compared to a 50k amp, I guess 15 k will be mid fi......in my view as well. and they may be quite good too

i appreciate what Jay is trying to do, just think its tough to create a channel with such limited appeal. its not like 10s of 000s of people are subscribing to hear a 500k system. maybe the youtube format is better for midfi after all (haha) and the upper echelon is still reading magazines :)

my friend Danny (SonicFlare) is focusing more on vinyl and other aspects of hifi to draw a larger YT audience. he just started though.

its tough to get an audience on anything these days.

MidFiand lowfi channels have the biggest audience. The Ultra high end audience is very small but i will be very honest about one thing: the ultra high end buyer, customer, owner, etc has a different mentality 9 times out of 10. They are (for the most part) easier to deal with.
The next amps you'll see on my channel are coming from a great guy who has been a pleasure to deal with. No drama, no headaches, and very accommodating.
I can understand why Mike and other dealers have a very hard time with the MIDFI and lowfi crowds. I'm not a dealer (at least not so far) and i feel the pain when dealing with the lowfi and midfi crowds. However, yes there are exceptions and i don't want for anyone to twist my words here.

Reviewing Midfi and lowfi is something that my channel has never been about. If you watched my channel from the beginning you'll see that i started with Alexia 1 right out of the gate and to me it would be somewhat of a disappointment or a letdown to all of a sudden begin to do what other channels do. I don't want to be the dude that is forced by its peers. I wanna be ME and let me tell you all that it isn't easy...

Performance determines MidFi or not IMO, it cant be only prices, if it cost 100K and cant best a 15K amp its not Hi End ..

Mid price sounds more appropriate not MidFi, which traditionally designates performance, usually determined as low Fi , Mid Fi , Hi fi and Nothing to do with prices ..

I can't tell you guys how many objectivists on Facebook groups claim that the benchmark amp will crush expensive amps like the D'agostino. They must think we listen to an oscilloscope or something. I'd love to see Jay take a pair of so called "giant killers" and pit them against actual giants. I think I know how that would turn out!

as a.wayne said, load requirements mean everything for amps. the problem is all the new Wilsons, Magicos, YGs of the world have huge amp requirements = $$$$.

The thing is that these so called "giant killers" don't enter the ring to duke it out with the big boys. It's all a big imaginary scenario.
These "giant killers" remind me of Chihuahuas...they bark and bark at the big dogs but they don't ever bite...and if they try to, they squeal like a pig and run under the bed...
