Is High-End Gear Really that Superior…I doubt it

Ask your thrifty pal to bring his $500 system over for A/B comparison and we'll see who's proud, probably won't take much effort to carry his gear around :)

LMAO.

Paul - just a thought....is there any other brands you like? Maybe a change to Pass? ARC? CJ? Just saying....I love Mc....but maybe too much of a good thing? A REF5SE may just shake things up nicely. ;). I really like ARC preamps and Mc amps. Rocking!

Mike

Thanks guys....You guys are main reason to make me to come this site first thing to start the day and last thing to end the day.:cryforjoy:

Mike....I don't have a problem with my Mc gears ( also I can't see my self change my ID to : bluepass, bluearc or goldcj lol...BlueMcIntosh ....is just so COOL ) it's just the room problem I'm facing it right now. I will figure it out soon.....I hope.

Blue, lot's of good advice here. I can only add this: Do take some time off of thinking about gear and all the rest of it. At the end of any day, all that matters are two things: 1) The music and 2) what your system sounds like to you and your ears, not ANYONE else's!!! Remember, you are the one who listens to the system day in and day out, it's the system you want, not what someone else wants. Also, we all hear differently. For instance, if you put two people or even 100 people in a room with the same pair of speakers with the same gear driving them in the same room with the same piece of music being played, no two persons will have the same opinion of the sound. At the end of the day, it's your system, period. If someone else doesn't like it, then who cares? As long as you like it yourself. As for your room: Do an evaluation, do some homemade testing. If your still stumped take some pictures of the room and write a description, then contact an honest acoustical engineer (not someone just trying to over-sell you a bunch of panels you won't need) and find out exactly what you do need to correct the room. (I might suggest GIK for starters).

Guys....It's not that I don't like my system...in-fact I love them....and I enjoy every minute of it.

Sometime...I just get frustrated...WHEN ? ...You bought the new cable that cost double of $$ compare to what you had and It sounds like sh$%.
When you changed to bigger room and all of sudden you lost all the beautiful sounds. Now it sounds like $ 200 boom box and don't know what to do with it, You saved every pennies over the years and finally bought your dream gear and they release the update version in two weeks later ..... What the F&^%!......After all this happened to you and you sit down on your chair just realized how much you invested on all these gears....$$$$$$$oh

I'm not a millionaire and just wish I spent all that money to purchased the house or condominium for investment.

Oh...one more thing...one day your friend come over to your home and you showed him how proud you are with your system and after couple of songs..... when he compares with his $ 500 system...Damn...

Part of the problem is making lateral moves instead of upgrading. I have personally found that this comes as a result of not being patient and/or listening to and /or believing everything one reads or hears without asking one’s self questions at least. One can waste tons of money making lateral moves.
I’ve learned over the years to stop and think before purchasing a piece. I ask myself questions such as: Can I afford this? What would it take to get this? Exactly what does it do and how WILL (not “could”) it benefit my system? Is there a way to demo it? Then I go and dig as deep as I can researching it.

Lmao!!! Sorry Paul when I saw the beautiful speaker selection you have and the pretty blue Mac gear all I could think about was an HRX . Lol!!! That table with 275's through your pmc's would be heaven no matter what cartridge you put on it. IMO!!! :)

My brain says No , My wallets opens it by itself.lol

I hear you and I should really careful with my money from now on....sigh

Throw some Dirac on your digital and that should mop up much of the negative room effects. The Klimt is too good not to optimize.

My current really bad room was looked at by an engineer and the conclusion was outside of 3 panels on the back wall and maybe 2 bass traps with no certainty the traps would even do much, if anything due to the architectural design of the room, there is nothing more I can do short of having them take down the apartment complex and rebuild. I’ve thought about software correction, but I’m not sure it would do much if anything either in my room. That Dirac software looks kind of neat, but it’s not available outside Europe. It would be too expensive where I live (about $600 for the 2-channel and $1000 for the multi-channel). Still looks neat though.
Blue, I'd bet your room is not as inflexible as mine. You should be able to easily do something.

Huh?

DallasJustice has it and he lives in DALLAS!

Also, its part of the offerings of Spatialcomputer.com $995 on the Mac:

Room Correction

Dirac Software room correction for Mac $995

SPATIAL has added the DIRAC room correction software system to our lineup. This is the best sounding DRC we have tried, and we are excited to offer our award-winning remote control installation approach combined with DIRACs superb sonic improvements. $995 complete with calibrated microphone and installation.

Dirac controls frequency and phase information, combined with the ability to custom tailor the response, to achieve the best and most natural sound available from your system.

If you already run an Apple computer as your music source, or plan to in the future - the Dirac system can be implemented. It runs in the background, so you just play iTunes music files as normal. Dirac's control of the speaker and room is state of the art in a software based product and greatly improves your system's sound. Also, Dirac works with any player software and processes all sound coming out the computer, including streaming sources such as Pandora and Spotify.

It is an acclaimed measurement-based solution for improved sound quality when you are listening to a hifi system with your computer as source and player. It firms up the bass, removes resonances, focuses the stereo image and makes voices stand out like you never have heard them before.
The technology on which it is based, Dirac Live®, is a result of years of research and patented digital signal processing. In short, it brings out the musicality and puts you face to face with the recorded artist. Used by leading high-end hifi companies, in luxury car sound systems such as Rolls Royce, BMW and Bentley and also in many digital cinema theaters around the world. Dirac has been a leader for over a decade in room and loudspeaker correction.
The Dirac Live Room Correction Suite consists of two modules of software that together improve the sound quality of your sound system: 1. Dirac Live Room Calibration Tool A clear, concise and simple step-by-step guided utility that allows you to measure and analyze the quality degradations that your loudspeakers and room imposes on the sound. Correction data is generated automatically. 2. Dirac Audio Processor Enables you to apply the created correction data to all sound that is played from your computer, regardless of media player or application.

Would you elaborate about it ?
What exactly are you talking about ?
Enjoy this rabbit hole: Dirac Live

Actually, Dallasjustice (Michael) is a member here and can give you great guidance. Dirac seems to be the "best of the bunch" software solution currently as it uses mixed phase data...

At this point, you have all the basic tools you will ever need to have stunning sound (more than most can say). Its just a matter of rolling up the sleeves and maxxing out your setup. That is the REAL fun part anway and will bring the GREATEST satisfaction...so be of good cheer! The future is bright, the future is ...ORANGE???? LoL, the UK people will understand.

it's just the room problem I'm facing it right now. I will figure it out soon. ....I hope.

I knew it was the room in your basement that was the start of all this dilemma in the first place Paul.

You remember when I said that I love your room upstairs; and then you said to me "but the room downstairs is larger, and 'The Music' should benefit from it"?
Now you'll have to do some serious speaker's positioning and some room treatments. It is totally natural.
Don't sweat the small stuff, and take your time. :)

- By the way, DIRAC is a program to EQ the sound in your room so that it is well balanced, sounding its optimum.
It measures your room's acoustics and let you tailor your own preferred (calibrated) audio spectrum curve between the sound of your speakers and your room's interaction.
