Introducing Roon 1.8 - COMING SOON

So far the update is a giant waste for me. The first response was there is no adjustment for the number of albums displayed. Now I have also found that I can no longer see the "abc" option at the bottom of the page to elect jumping to any letter in the alphabet to search for the artist I want to play. So far this sucks.
 
waiting for the dust to settle down before I update.

Anybody care to comment on the sound quality ? Same, better or worse ?

We listened, upgraded, listened again. Can’t say we agree. More veiled sounding to us. Love the new Interface though.

We had three hear listening. All agreed, more veiled sounding. [emoji2369]. Love the new interface though.

I’ve emailed Emile to see if the Taiko Extreme can be tweaked sonically for Roon 1.8.

I just uploaded Roon 1.8. It sounds truly wonderful. No glitches so far. I’ll comment on the updated interface once I’ve had the opportunity to become familiar with it.

No surprise really. Those are all subjective statements or opinions.

Roon Labs has said nothing about SQ.
Roon Labs keeps has proved that it will deliver bit-perfect data to your DAC. And that is perfectly fine with me.
 
I’m updating my Roon Nucleus+ at home right now (runs my NAIM streamer on my Vivid/NAIM system). I’ll report back.

You are talking about Roon updating its database, right ? yeah, it indeed does a whole bunch of non-audiophile things in the background that can effect the sq.

I have no complaints about the sound, and no plans for acquiring a 20K Taiko Extreme [emoji3].

This is not correct Mike.

Roon updates the database right away, before you can play anything on version 1.8 with the updated core. Therefore, there is a SQ change right away, or there is none.

Well, what we heard right away was not positive with the taiko, but it was positive with the NUC+. I’ll check again tomorrow when I’m back in the store to see if as Emile said, we should hear a change.

Regarding the two servers however, if it sounds better after the upgrade as you say, then I would probably stick with the NUC+ going forward. But I’m anyway happy with my pimped-up NAS.
