International - World Music that you are Listening to ♪♪ - In the Now ::

Allen,
Ugandan folk music. Based on some of your other world music interests, you'd like him. Peter Gabriel helped promote Oryema to the West through his Real World label. I'd recommend this one. Couple of hauntingly gorgeous songs mixed with some more traditional balafon/xylophone tracks which are not everyone's cuppa.

Before we close the year here are a few albums form the World music section I played over the holidays.

An oldie from 1990 :)
Recorded in Brussels: the album Set from Youssou n'Dour from Senegal. Especially the song Xale is beautiful!

And two new discoveries.

A great instrumental from Anouar Brahem from Tunisia: Souvenance from 2015. A fantastic blend from classical, jazz and Arab music. My favorite track: on the road.

Last but not least a great Afro-Cuban artist: Dayme Arocena. A mix of African, Cuban, jazz, dance, lounge. A top album from start to finish. The new era in Cuba is reflected in this album Nueva Era.

Happy new year!!

Ok. Not exactly world, but world/classical/experimental fusion maybe. Recorded in Istanbul by this NYC/Montreal band.
