Integrated Amplifiers

Hi Allen, yes I'd believe it with the new sound of the 5 series. I will have to make an effort to hear this one at the shows when they get here. Then again, I don't need any amps but that really is a slackers excuse, we don't need any of it. :)

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Wow!

What a sweet little amp.

This is one sweet sounding tube amp......The Unison Research Simply Italy.........12 Watts of glorious Class A Tube.........i heard it hooked up to a pair of Monitor Audio Gold Towers and it sounded very, very sweet/romantic in the midrange .

I heard this one on a pair of Audio Physics Sparks a while back and it was FIRST CLASS.

PS: The last 3 photos are of the older model.

I've been using a McIntosh MA-7000 in one of my systems for about 3 years and see no reason to change. It is very nice to look at, has prodigious power, is stable as a rock, is very reliable, and it Sounds Great!

I've probably owned 20+ integrated amps over the years and this MA7000 is the first one that I ever decided was "good enough to keep".

That is a great looking amp too! Love the Big Meters. ;) Way above my budget though..:(

Hi gents, just joined. Have been looking for a few years for the 'perfect' integrated to drive Martin Logan Summit X. Gave up after many tries (Simaudio 700i, Gryphon Atilla, NuForce 9SE, Cymer KT120, Stello, Shindo Monbrison (beautiful, but high output impedance 5k, 7 NOS hidden under 21 small Allen screws), etc.
Settled on Conrad Johnson ET5 + McCormack DNA-250, perfect, excellent match, but soon realised the boxes were too big in my little house. Currently assessing Ayre AX-5 (very nice, only minus is it runs a bit hot - like it a lot), Accuphase E-560 coming for a visit today. Yes!
Then you ask what is this fool talking about small house when he has Summit X?
Fair question. Also assessing Evolution Acoustics MMMicro One...
It's an interesting life!!! :)

Welcome to AS.

I'm very interested in how you think the AX5 and E560 compare to each other. Over the years I've really liked the Ayre sound. Just recently heard the Accuphase and liked it too.

Please let us know.

Hey Rusty, good to see you made it.

Hey Kev, great to know you're here.
Thanks for letting me know this place exists.
And thanks for the welcomes gents, this place has a good feel to it.
Ayre vs Accuphase?
Well, I've had the Ayre for a few days and liked it very much.
Clean, plenty of power, detailed, musical, only minus is it runs quite hot after some use.
Not fry eggs hot, but certainly a bit ouchy.
Played my standards through the Ayre via Zensati's cheapest cables into the Micros. Yep.
Then plugged in the Accuphase. More power straight away. Ok, this is interesting. Micros got a bit (not a lot, don't misunderstand, no way I'm dissing them, as the next model up - Mini Ones - were to me the best sound at last year's Sydney hifi show) confused at high volumes.
Ok, set up the Summit Xs. Hadn't heard the Zensatis with the SummitX before.
It was an OMG moment.
NOTHING I've heard before has come anywhere near the sq I was hearing from the bad boys.
Full, detailed, and _at last_ an amp that could drive those woofers with authority and not simultaneously drive me out of the room (ASR Emitter drove them brilliantly, but I found myself listening from another room, plus soundstage died at lower volume).
The bass has power, it has detail, layers of sound are all there.
Yeah, I bought the Accuphase on the spot and returned the Ayre.
Seriously, in my house, in my system, there was no comparison.
Three points:
The E-560 is rated at 30wpc pure class a into 8 ohms, but I read that German mag Audio measured it at 60wpc into 8ohms. Yeah, I translated it to check.
Side by side it is noticeably better than the top Accuphase class a/b which has 180wpc into 8.
Thirdly, class a is supposed to run hot by its very nature. Nah, not this one.
Every class a/b I've had in the house has run considerably hotter. This thing is only mildly warm no matter what you play. Don't know how they do it.
Btw that German mag rated the E-560 as equal best integrated in the world with a couple of others I didn't know. No Dartzeel mentioned. They gave it 130 points, and the Ayre 83 (?) points.
So there you go. If you know someone with Summit Xs, tell them E-560 plus Zensati. That's their shortcut to Nirvana.
Another clue, if you prefer valves, Shindo Monbrison with something like a McCormack DNA-250/Magtech/Audyssey (sp?) will also do the trick, but I prefer the way I've gone.
Can't imagine what the more powerful Accuphase class A amps must be like.
Good night all, and remember to wash the dishes before you go to bed.
(Don't know where that came from...).
Rusty rant over.

Randy,

Thank you. The Accuphase must be awesome. I have always admired Accuphase gear and would love to own some one day.

Thanks for your comments.

Your comments are exactly what I was guessing after hearing them Ayre and Accuphase in different systems. The E-560 had balls plus some.

I've read that the E-560 was much much better than the E-460 and held it's own power wise even tho it's 180w vs 30w.

I've always been drawn to simplicity of an integrated amplifier. When done right, it's all that anybody could ever need!

I read it in a couple of the E-460, E-560 reviews and then above Rusty said "Side by side it is noticeably better than the top Accuphase class a/b which has 180wpc into 8."

Never had the chance to personally compare them, but would love to.

Hmmm....really?

I was seriously thinking e-460 for the S5's....maybe e-600 is the better bet?
