In line with Jay, Mike & Elliot....

as an industry we have turned over our future to the group of people that never write a check, that is audio marketing. This has not worked in 30 years and its getting worse every year. Having people that cant even afford to buy the gear telling thse that can . I am referring to the press that gets products on loans and terms why are we building products for them and not the customers ?Nonsense. If we ar e doing High End then act like High end.
That is a ll I want to say without getting paid LOL

So do you think ad revenue is going to dry up for audio print mags and ezines, or just audio forums?

Maybe you should have people show their tax return before entering your room or store. You don't want to waste your time on the unwashed.

You missed the point and perhaps I was to vague I was not referring to clients I was referring to reviewers and critics I change my post to make it clearer about what I was trying to say . I do not feel what you are saying

Can't wait for the upcoming vids, Elliot. You're killing it exposing the charade many participate in!
we are going to make a new video this morning and it is on Jays channel. I am not sure when he will release it but I assume this weekend. I am awake, hydrated and just finished breakfast LOL and ready to go. I think last nights show went really well Danny Ritchie was terrific and I enjoyed him as well. Thanks for all the kind words .

I watched the first video mostly. Ron usually keeps things moving on his interviews but that video was long. Man I don't want to sit and watch a movie, LOL. Maybe it's just my opinion I'd find it more helpful if you all kept it moving and maybe set a time limit.

I'm sure some of the direct comments made by the group will raise some eye brows or dander.

I’m still unclear about your point, and leading a conversation about this topic - it is an important one.

Are you suggesting that only those reviewers who can actually afford to buy a pair of $100k amps (for instance) should be the ones offering an opinion about their sound?

In other words, are you suggesting that someone’s purchasing power should be used as a “Measure of Credibility" for what they think about gear?

Can you elaborate on this phrase, for clarity “If we are doing high end, then act like high end”.

Who is “We” and what does “act like high end” mean?

Mind you… I think what most reviewers think about subjective qualities is absolutely MOOT. And “Social Media” isn’t the answer, either.

Print Mags, Social Media… whatever… it’s an opinion from some guy with a microphone / keyboard (just like me), and some have more experience than others. Others focus more on background lighting, neon signs, and makeup. “How cool do I sound”… "Should I hold my chin in a pensive manner for the photo?”… “Should I have an expression of glee, terror, or surprise for the clickbait YouTube pic?"

After all, if “Social Media” were the panacea, (actually probably to blame for MORE problems, not LESS) we’d all have WiiM streamers, Klipsch speakers, and my wife would be telling me “No dinner until you admit Class D is better than Class A, after all… The Measurements!”.

Mike said it above… “you have to spend money and put in EFFORT to go find and HEAR gear to find what is best for “you””.

I’ve made 2 trips, so far, to Texas. Planes, Trains, and automobiles - literally. I have visited with Danny, twice. Spent days there. The recent trip over the summer was to help pack up my line arrays.

I get great feedback from 2 things… my own ears (which requires me to spend $$$), and my good friend who has heard the same gear, speakers, and wire I have. We have similar tastes, which are beyond reproach - of course. What we like is most definitely “the best” - just like every other elbow with an opinion.

We share leads for the next thing to try. And recently, that allowed me to replace Shunyata Theta, while others think it’s the latest, greatest thing - and paid me top dollar for my used wire.

I connect dots, am perceptive, I LISTEN, I compare what people say about different things and sometimes even the same thing (and they don’t realize it). I’ve created experiences (spent $$$) that have lead to LEARNING… that has narrowed the field such that I am MUCH more selective about the wormholes I get caught up in.

So far, it’s workin’ out really, really well. But it takes an awful lot of work, thinking, and “buying things right so you can use them for “free” to learn what you really want to INVEST in.”

The fact of the matter is, a lot of people are just too lazy to put in the work and they want to be “told what they like” (a nearly impossible task) and then they wonder why they are never happy with “the new thing”.

I wonder how they buy a car.

No

Thank you.

If you’re going to “carry a torch” for this sort of thing, that sort of answer undermines what you are promoting.

If you’re not willing to talk about it, in depth, then I would suggest being careful about getting out over your skis with respect to issues of “Money” and how that correlates to “Experience" and “Judgement".

Well, at least if an “honest opinion” is what is being argued for here - which was the point for all of this?

Maybe one day I will know what “acting like High End” means, so I know how I need to “act”.

Pardon me for saying so, but obviously it sounds ELITIST - which is also part of the problem in high end.

In particular, I recall one conversation with a manufacturer lamenting the fact that his dealers are browbeating him to RAISE PRICES… so they can negotiate from a higher price. (It’s not the recent speaker manufacturer talking about “buyer consultants").

It ain’t just “the magazines”… and with your response… you never know what potential customers are flying at 35,000 feet observing how you respond to being challenged on a point of view.

And as it always is… it’s all about TRUST.
