From the Washington Examiner:
There is an “increasing chance” Irma will hit South Florida and the Florida Keys later this week and weekend, the hurricane center said in a 5 p.m. advisory.
Irma could directly hit the British and U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico by early Wednesday, and hurricane watches have been issued for these areas.
Puerto Rican Gov. Ricardo Rossello on Monday declared a state of emergency in the U.S. territory.

Best to all the FL sharks. Wishing you stay safe and dry.

Man, I really can't afford to go through another one of these. I hate to wish harm to anyone but Irma needs to go south of Cuba and then down to Mexico and die in the mountains without harming anyone. .

Chris.......I hear you. I don't want to go through another hurricane either. The advantage I have is being 95 miles inland from the Atlantic and 50 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico. If the eye of the hurricane makes landfall this far north, the wind speeds will drop fairly quick once it is over land and loses its convection from being over warm water. I could possibly see 60 to 70 mile MPH wind but only if the eye passes over this area. Otherwise it will just get windy with gusts at 30 to 40 MPH. You, on the other hand, are along the central east coast of Florida. It's a lovely place to live when the weather cooperates, not so much when it gets nasty. I'm sure we will both be watching Irma closely. All we can do is pray for the best and prepare for the worst.

I agree with you Chris. Friday was the one year anniversary of our last direct hit. That was more than enough for a while.

Bad, really bad CAT 5 with 180 MPH winds. Lots of damage will take place in the Caribbean. Depending on the storm path, Florida will be in bad shape this weekend.

Wishing the best for all the AS members and their families who are potentially in the path of Hurricane Irma. Hoping that it turns North before it reaches the mainland.

Ken

Winds at 185 MPH...Clearly, anyone/anything on Irma's path is not going to fare well.

My sister and her husband are getting out of Florida Thursday. They will ride it out in Nashville until the storm passes before heading back.

Overlaying an image of Irma over the state of Texas to give you an idea of the size of the hurricane.
