I'm in a great place right now with my system. As long as I don't change speakers I feel like I'm at a temporary stopping point.

Even after I come home from visiting Mike, and listening to his system, I'm not feeling like I'm missing out on anything.

Anyone else??

Well when I got home from visiting Mike, I went so that's what $100k + system sounds like to include his room. When I sat down in my Mike's chair and a smile came to my face when the music started, that is what I'm looking for in my system. I'm not there yet, give it 2 -4 years.

Count me in [emoji1303] I'm so happy where I am. I might like to try the horn speakers one day but till then I'm extremely satisfied.

Chris, I wasn't saying my system is better, I'm saying that I was thrilled that my system didn't let me down whatsoever when I got home.

I am so happy to have two amazing systems. My Avantgarde Duo Mezzo XD's with 300b amps, Kronos and various digital sources has stopped me in my tracks. For another great sound, I have my VAC/Magico system with the Lumin S1 and VPI table with the Transfiguration Proteus Cart. The Proteus Cart and the VAC amps make me think I stole something. Both are killer good. For the AG system, I'm still thinking about some 845/211 amps like the Triode Corp of Japan or the 45 watt Jadis KT150 amps or VIVA 845 amps. I'm also fortunate enough to have lots of other gear to swap in - like Pass gear and my little Yamamoto 45 amp. I'm also on the hunt for a killer phonostage with adjustable on the fly loading options - but the AT phono with AT SUT sounds so damn good. I need to send my Studer to Nick Doshi to have a look. I've done all I can do on my side with swapping out cards and various things. Still getting a lot of excess noise with the Studer. Oh well, it's an old sucker! Makes me drool for those new R2R decks.

The best thing about both systems? I just play whatever music I like. I've admittedly had systems in the past which were very material limiting - you know the type of system - "we can only play these 12 tracks". With my AG's and Magico's, I just pick whatever I want and damn, it all sounds good! Even old crappy music from the 50's or 60's sounds great on both systems. And both systems sound great at ANY volume!!

I've been very quiet of late as I'm thoroughly happy with my system. Exactly the sound I've been looking for all along.

It's a really nice place to be, it's all I can say!

After 45 years, I'm almost done. My last big purchase was a Lyra Etna cartridge and I am enjoying vinyl playback immensely and buying more new music.

My journey's been a little different than most. Much of my stuff is heavily modified. Only my Audio Research Ref 40 Anniversary has been spared. The big downside is the equipment can be out of service for awhile as I've retired from doing the work myself. Things sound great now, but I'll be glad when it's all done.

Question ,

For anyone really, at what level of cartridge would you say analog starts to show a flatline , in other words after getting over the 1K level did you guys find improvements were different and sideways instead of better , or does it go to another level with the super cartridges ....

I think he meant the AG Duo Mezzo XD system. Chris also heard the Zero XD's. I didn't have my Magico's at that point.

I've heard Mark (MDP's) system sans the H30 and new VPI avenger and it was awesome then. I hope to get to see Mark this summer.

I'm the wrong person to ask due to limited cartridge experience. I picked mine so that it would not be a limiting factor for the rest of my system and was lucky to get exactly what I was looking for sonically.

Tks,

Had to familiarize myself with Mark's system , I see he is using an Ortofon with his VPI....

I don't think it's that easy. Depends on components at hand, sound you are looking for and the likes. I for one replaced a Kleos with Etna and it was a very significant change although the signature of both is fairly similar. I currently also have a Dyna XV1-S which to me sounds very nice but not to the same level as the Etna.

YMMV,

I currently have a modest Ortofon Cadenza Bronze on my VPI Avenger.

I'm sure there is something better, but I'm so damn satisfied that I really don't care right mow..
