Part of it might be that pride prevents some people from acknowledging that they just might possibly be wrong about anything, even the most trivial point.I'm new and appreciate the chance to participate. Seems like a great forum. I like the other forum, but I'm a nut about this stuff. I will never understand, however, grown men hurling insults at each other because one likes tubes and one likes transistors, or one buys expensive cables and one doesn't. The need to be right and to be perceived as some sort of super expert is strong in this hobby. Status, of a sort, I suppose.
A big turning point in my life happened during a debate with a friend. I had an epiphany - I realized that I was learning from listening to and soberly considering his points instead of stubbornly and pridefully clinging to my untenable position. Then all of a sudden, it hit me - I had indeed been wrong on the topic! It got me to thinking, how likely is it that ANYONE can be right in EVERY disagreement? I sure can't.
