Hello Audioshark members,

I stumbled here while looking for DAC recommendations and thought maybe I'd give the forum a go. I've been on a few other audio boards and lately haven't really been an active member on any of them. While most people are friendly, I tire of the polarization of board members and the attitude that comes with this hobby (and probably most others.) I believe if you love music and you're interested in the hobby, then we should get along great. It seems that people forget that there's plenty of room for all types in this hobby, from those that string together an old technics TT with Realistic speakers and receiver, to those that spend more on an interconnect than I have invested in an entire system. It's all good if you ask me and I'm just here to talk to people who love the music and the gear.

I think I'm out of my league here, however! I've got a few paltry systems set up, but I enjoy the music and enjoy trying to find ways to make things sound better.

For me, this hobby has been a voyage. I started out as a child listening to my fathers Harman Kardon receiver, BIC turntable and JBL L26's. I eventually inherited that system and have since gone from scouring the city for vintage JBL, Marantz and the like, to finding some pretty nice mid-fi gear and putting together some decent sounding systems. I have the taste for the hi-end but with 3 kids in daycare, I have the budget for a boombox and used skid row tapes. I would love to run out and put together a new system but that'll have to wait until the kids are out of the house, through college, in secure jobs and I'm dead.

I do have a few pieces that I stumbled on. Dahlquist DQ-20s and 18's, some VMPS super towers, older B&W, a Sony N80-ES, Nak. 610 pre, and some other assorted gear. I listen to records, cds as well as stream MOG and spotify.
I'll probably always be on the search for the next upgrade. ANYWAYS, I look forward to learning from you guys!

Thanks and have a great day!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Sorry this reply took so long, we got hit with a rogue snow storm that wiped out our power and most of my trees! It was a long weekend of removing downed branches and my yard still looks like it was hit with a bomb. I was out at past 1am on Thursday morning trying to remove what snow I could from our smaller trees. It was pretty surreal actually. It was dead calm, snow coming down hard, the silence broken by huge branches crashing all around my neighborhood. Occasionally a power transformer would blow and light up the sky. It felt like the beginning of a Cormac McCarthy novel.

We have a wood fireplace that I was trying to keep stoked, but I realized how unprepared I was for any type of emergency. Luckily, the power crews here did a great job of getting power back fairly quickly. I really don't know what I'd do if the storm didn't subside when it did. I didn't have enough wood to keep the house warm enough, things could have been a lot worse!

Again, thanks for the welcome! Be sure you have enough supplies to last at least a few days and a backup propane heater, or enough wood to keep warm! No such thing as getting prepared during an emergency!

I hope you all have a good day!
