Hello from Albertporter

Welcome Albert, your knowledge and experience will be welcomed in the aquarium.

I have to share this, along time ago while I was browsing the internet looking for a phono pre I read your reviews and comments to what was then your phono pre, the Aesthetix IO. After a while I found one at a local dealer that I could listen in my home, it never went back to the dealer and I have been happy as a clam ever since. I need to thank you for this.

I know you moved on since but I still like that pre.

Again welcome

The Aesthetix IO is a miracle. Designed by Jim White when he was still at Theta as more or less a personal project. It's very difficult to get enough gain for a MC cart using all tubes but the IO pulled it off. I respect the IO and Callisto, they are still in that last few percent range of the very best performance for both phono and preamp. I wrote quite a lot on the care and feeding of tubes for these over at Audiogon. I can provide my experience if you have not already found the ideal combination.

It has been a few years since I used Aesthetix in my system but that does not mean I think less of them. I spoke to Jim White at CES on Friday, we go back a long way and he is very accessible as manufacturers and designers go.

Thanks for your comment.

Hi Albert,

great to see that you decided to join.

Time to post "share" some pictures of your system and CES visit.

Dev,

I would not be here but for you. I took a look around after reading your comment in the communication boxes at Audiogon. Seems Audioshark is about freedom and that's a good thing.

Hi Albert,

Welcome to AudioShark. I am really happy to read about your great system again - I really enjoyed these long threads of the old times on it.

I did indeed enjoy the Sound-Lab. You are likely aware I was a loyal owner for over twelve years with the A-1 and then U-1.

Yes, I also know of it. Although I like trying different speakers, I still own the A1 Px, hot-rod version and now with the new toroid II.

Hi Albert,

did you happen to move forward with the Ultra 5's, you had mentioned looking at having them re-died to have a larger diameter nipple thread for connecting.

I see we think similar when seeing MPD's sexy avatar :) very nice indeed

Francisco, excellent that you are here. Is there an area where we can post our system and images like Audiogon?

I wanted to speak with Stillpoints at CES and get their blessing before drilling. Either they did not show or I missed them. I don't think the 14mm drill and tap could harm the Ultra 5 but they are too pricey to not know for sure.

As for avatar, yep she is a killer. Good choice from MPD.

Hi Albert,

have you "or anyone else" ever heard German Physiks top tier speakers? I'm currently interested in their flagship Guadi MKII, @ $220 EUR.

There is a pair in Hong Kong but not looking go there.

They will be showing their Emperor's which is one down at the Axpona Show in April, apparently will be over a Mil set-up.

Dev,

On your description I looked them up.

Nope, I've never even seen a pair of the flagship version much less auditioned them at RMAF, CES or other shows I've attended. I've seen and heard their smaller models and they image somewhat like the MBL design I assume credit goes to both sharing an omni directional radiator design. No experience other than that.

I'm working on THE Show and CES report for PFO, I saw some interesting things and met a several people that made the whole trip worthwhile :^).
