HD music server from Sony ... plays back DSD,

Admittedly, the issue with CD is often not the CD format itself, its the crappy (to use Jim's word) recording. I bought a re-mastered Joni Mitchell CD and I swear it sounds like it was made yesterday (and not by Adele's engineers).

Agreed. Let me clarify.

Where I have both a redbook CD and the corresponding SACD, the SACD invariably always sounds smoother (to my ears) than the CD counterpart. Voices are more nuanced, too. Just wondering if their 'remastering' engine will smooth out redbook CDs as it coverts it to bit stream format.

Anyway, can't wait to try one!:exciting:

Decide to pull the trigger on Bryston BDA2 and BDP1. Since I'm just start to step in to the digital world. I will start with them and move up if I use them a lot. :)

Paul - can you post this under the Bryston forum? I'm curious as to why you went with the BDP-1 instead of the BDP-2? Also, do you know if you can connect the BDP-1/2 to a NAS and avoid the whole PC thing altogether?

That is my current combo. You should love it. Lately I have been ripping Bluray Audio disks to my harddrive. I did Exile On Main Street last weekend.

Let me strognly recommend upgrading to a Shunyata Alpha digital cable for the BDP-1. It made a tremendous improvement on mine.

Yes Mike.Once I receive them. :) The reason I went to BDP1 is very simple coz I got a great deal together :) I've been told 1and 2 their are not a sonic difference just more ram and more hard drives capabilities.

I don't know about the NAS as I'm new on this lol.

Thanks Bud. Is it Power cord are you referring ?

Yes. Power cord. I am using the Shunyata Zitron Python AES digital cable to connect to my BDA2. I put an Aplha on the BDA2, but its improvement was minor campared to the BDP1.

I believe that I haver read that when Bryston adds DSD capabilities the BDP-2 can be modified but not the BDP-1. Different DAC's. I thin James Tanner can confirm.

Does the DSD format is work with DAC or Digital player or both ?

I suggest that you direct your questions to James Tanner of Bryston who posts here. I would only be guessing and he would give you the straight scoop. He posts under James Tanner - Bryston

Jim. I will ask him. Thanks. However when you say BDP ...it is a just digital player and the BDA is a DAC so I was wondering if you are confused or Me :)

James just mentioned today on another forum that they are working on a software update for both the BDP1 and BDP2 to play DSD. They are also upgrading the BDA2 DAC for DSD. However, the chips in the BDA1 does not support DSD.
