Gryphon Colosseum arrives at Suncoast Audio

At almost 2 times the cost I hope better. Nevertheless, it would be great to do a comparison to articulate the differences between these two great amps.

Mike, I think the D'Ag 250 is $35,000. The Colosseum is $49k. When you get time, let's listen!

Will love to attend AXPONA 2018 -- have heard good things about the show.

Anshul

I don't have the Vitus anymore, so hard to say. 160 watts vs 50 watts is also different. I love the dark, rich, chocolatey, BIG BIG BIG sound of Gryphon.

I wish YOU lived closer! I miss hanging out with you. Can you make it to Axpona?

What is the difference between the price and the sound of the Colosseum and the Antileon EVO Stereo?

The older Antileon Sig was always a bit darker and heavier sounding, but the EVO is supposed to be more open and transparent.

It's funny, Jeff Fritz (Soundstage Ultra) said in his review that overall, he preferred Antileon Evo to Colloseum and Mephisto. Wow!!!

For the money....

I have a network of Gryphon dealers in Europe and Asia that I communicate with on FB Messenger. They've carried the brand for years or decades. They all told me - unanimously - get the Colosseum!

“And the Antileon Evo’s sound, too, differs a bit from those of the Mephisto and Colosseum. It’s not quite as quiet as either of the earlier amps, though so close that in listening it made no difference. After all, we don’t listen with an ear pressed against a tweeter, which was the only time I could hear any noise from the Evo. Although I’m now relying only on my memories of the sounds of those older amps, I can say that the Evo’s soundstaging was just a touch bigger than the Colosseum’s, and virtually matched the Mephisto’s. I also think the Evo sounded more, um, analog than the Mephisto or Colosseum. By which I mean not that its sound was “slower” or less resolving, but that it was so cohesive -- entirely of a piece -- and easygoing. Though the Antileon Evo has impressive resolving capabilities and admirable speed and agility, those traits didn’t stand out and call attention to themselves; instead, I simply appreciated how natural the Evo sounded with any music I threw at it.”

Well, it seems that not only for the money .... but it is true that we each have our preferences in sound.

Please put some quotation marks around this, I thought it was your review! :D

Thanks,
