Gryphon 300 - one month later

It brings a smile to my face that so many people get to enjoy Gryphon in the USA now. In the past I've only owned older used equipment but when the day comes and I move back to the state I plan on joining the ranks of the new stuff.

I think I have about 75 hr under the belt. Manual says 50 hr (addition to factory burn-in) and Mike recommended 150 hr.

Someone mentioned in one of the threads before (couldn't find it now) that certain frequencies aren't fully waken up with Diablo 300 in his system. I also felt the same way during first couple of days with Diablo in my system. But I can attest that it's all gone now. Diablo 300 sounds more powerful and refined than my previous separates. I had doubts going to the integrated route, but I'm glad I did and has no regret with the kind of performance I get from the 300.

Really great you like it, congrats. A great amp.

Diablo 300 has not only elevated my musical enjoyment, but also the HT experience. Just finished The Crown season 2 6th episode and my 2.1 system has never sounded better.

Congratulations. Looks like a great integrated. I’m happy for you.

How’s the bass with 2 ch music with the S3s driven by the Diablo 300? Comparison to before?

Sounds to be an excellent choice of amp.

I have a Diablo 300 driving Magico S3 Mk IIs. Long break-in for the speakers especially, most noticeable in the bass, but now lots of aha moments, whether bringing a jazz ensemble or a symphony orchestra into the room. Superb bass, dynamics, coherence, tone. These products go well together, and, IMO, the Diablo is a screaming bargain.

More bass both in quantity and quality, which also seem to help midrange clarity.

Besides, it makes the soundstage wider/deeper but at the same time sounds more musical. It surprised me quite a bit. [emoji15]

Cmon guys.......updates.......if anyone wants to get rid of their Diablo 300 boat anchor let me know. It’s worth a mere pittance now that it’s used keep in mind!

Nope, haha. I'm keeping it long term. It really is a bargain for a system under $20k (amp+pre or integrated). HT by-pass and sub-out are also exactly what I need.

Larry, to me that sounds a lot like you’re saying you do have some room in your audio rack?

Mike, is that what you’re hearing as well?

I’m opening a non-profit organization for the hifi impaired next month so I’m holding off on the Diablo 300 so can write it off as a business expense.
Also I was waiting for the after Christmas clearance Mike has every year. The 31rst is when he really cuts ya the best deals. :woot:

He knows he wants it. He tried it in his system. There is just no going back now.

Home auditioning? Uuuh, dangerous move.

It will be hard to recover from that.

I have about 100 hours on mine and it is looking/sounding more and more like a long term hold for me!

BTW I heard from a dealer that Vitus is working on a new integrated to compete head to head with the Diablo - specs, quality AND price. Not sure if this is already covered by a separate thread. Now that would be an interesting comparison.

Read about that as well. I think Vitus are replacing the rather mediocre RI-100.

But I would not be betting my house on it yet, as Vitus seem to be able to make great low power Class A integrated amps, but the more potent Class A/B ones seem not able to hold their own.

Also, while the Diablo is not a bargain, I’m sure if Vitus made anything comparable to the Diablo SQ-, feature- and power-wise’ they would charge double the price. IMHO Vitus are way overpriced for what they do.

I hope you’re not taking “burn-in” too literally, as you say looks are also changing with burn-in [emoji12].

Haha. Yep, it’s aesthetic certainly has grown on me. Although I must admit when I first auditioned my recent cables purchase with the D’Agostino Momentums (before home auditioning) I could not take my eyes off the D’Ags. I kept repeating to myself: “Three times the price. Three times the price...”.

While the Diablo sounds great, it certainly looks a bit like the industrial designer had a hangover the day it was designed. But the truth is in the eye of the beholder or more accurately in ones living/ music room.

To me the DAGs are a little more easy on the eyes as well.
