Greetings from Wisconsin

Welcome aboard! I'm relatively new here myself, and I can easily say that this is one of the friendliest and most helpful forums that I have yet encountered.

Greetings Bachtoven! Thank you for the warm welcome and yes, I would have to agree with you 100% in that this has been a very friendly and helpful forum! I am so thankful that I happened to stumble across it!

Thanks again.

Hi No Regrets,

I just saw your posting on another forum titled Artisan Fidelity "Achates Idler Drive" Turntable asking - who's table is that.

Look at the pictures above I provided and my Avatar, look familiar? Should because it's my table :)

Hi Dev,

You would think I would learn to stop posting after enjoying a few too many bourbons:D After rereading that post again this morning, I can see that I didn't word it very clearly.

I did in fact remember that the photo shown was of your specific table, but I (maybe mistakenly) was under the impression that it is now a production piece, and was simply wondering if anyone else at that particular forum may have also owned one. Knowing that your's is still sitting in it's crate, I've been anxiously waiting to hear peoples impressions of this table.

Ever since I saw the photo of your table here on this forum, my wife and I can't keep ourselves from drooling! It's beautiful, sexy, and relatively small footprint with not having several different outboard motors/flywheels/power supplies, etc.

Lately, I've been leaning towards the Spiral Groove due to its small form factor and reputation, but damn I love the looks of your new Achates Idler Drive:exciting:

I'm sure it will be difficult to tear yourself away from that fantastic Air Force One, but I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the Achates when you get around to it.

Ha! Ha! no problem! Audio porn can do that to us :) My table was a one off in the WORLD because of what I wanted finish wise along with Ultra 5's but what Christopher refers to being now in production is the inverted bearing design and his new platter which are now both in production. I'm pretty sure you could have the same design, just not sure what the status is of the wood finish availability is - only way is too ask

My current configuration set-up unfortunately just doesn't allow me any space to place this table - moving the air force one to do this just won't be happening so I was thinking about placing another stand in front but due to WAF factor I can already here my inner voice saying don't do it ;) my wife voicing her dissatisfaction if I do it. I need to get my designated room done!

Oh, believe me…..I certainly understand all about the WAF factor. I am grateful that my bride allows me to have a dedicated listening room….anything goes in that room….but ONLY in that room. Even though she very much loves music, the rest of the house she wants to look like a home and not a stereo store….and I'm okay with that.

Take your time doing your designated room. You're gonna love it once it's done!

Hi No Regrets, my table is on your brain I see :)

I would recommend you contact Christopher directly "see below info" to see if they will be exhibiting and have what actual table there. Member Worldcat on the other forum just doesn't know - he thinks my table is a SP10 mkII - he is not correct - no my actual table won't be there it's with m still in it's crate.

Hi Dev,

Thanks for the link…I'll be sending him a quick email when done here. I got my reservations made for the hotel and show yesterday, so I'm all set. I've got your German Physiks room on my hit list and will be sure to take some photos.

Your right, I can't seem to get your table out of my head. I hope he is showing something similar to yours there so I can get a feel for what it is like. I see that both Spiral Groove and the Innovation Wood will be there. The other table that I'm really interested in is the AMG V12. I don't know if they will be in attendance or not, but I believe that there is a dealer in Chicago and will plan on visiting him in addition to the show.

no problem, the finish I chose is usually seen with other manufactures of tables - best to refer to their site.

I don't blame you, my table truly looks sexy! and I'm sure will perform just as well - I did 2 years of research prior to pulling the trigger

Those other 3 you mentioned are great tables too -

I was able to get a hold of Chris via email and he is planning on attending the Chicago Axpona show with not only the Achates Idler but also with a few of his other tables as well. Should be a very interesting experience for me as I have zero experience with any of the direct/rim/idler type drive systems.

I'm really looking forward to meeting Chris in person. I bet he's a really great guy….just judging from his attention to detail on his creations (truly works of art) coupled with his timely email response to me.

This is going to be a great show!

That's great! Sounds like you should have lots of fun.

I can tell you he delivered my table as per agreed time frame. Ask Chris to provide you info describing the deferences between the different designs and you will realize why I chose what I did
:)

Don't for to take lot's of picks

Yes, you can count on me taking lots of photos! I just sent Chris an email asking him for more info regarding his various designs and am looking forward to his response. But in the meantime, if you feel like chatting, I'd love to hear why you chose the Achates:D.

That's great, look forward to seeing those pics. :)

Have you ever heard a system with a Lenco table? I'm sure Chris will provide you with some great info on the sonic's of different designs he offers.

Currently he has a add placed on Audiogon, has used pics of my table, good description out laying this table - check it out.

Achates Idler Drive Modular Inverted Bearing Debut | Turntables | Hammond, Indiana 46324 | AudiogoN - The High-end Audio Community

Hey Dev,

No, I've never heard anything other than various belt drive tables. Never heard rim drives, direct drives, idler drives…I guess I've lived a sheltered life for an audiophile. I'm pretty open minded….I don't really care what the drive mechanism is….all I care about is the sound…and if it looks sexy, that's just a bonus!:D

Thanks for sharing the link to the ad. Nice write up and great photos as usual. I can't wait to be able to finally see it and hear it in person.

You should really try to get away and come down to the show in Chicago. It would be nice to meet you and I'm sure it would be great fun!
