Game Changer !

Barry, This is the kind of thing I love about our hobby. I have the opposite reaction from you on these two speakers. I think the S5's better the Alexia in every way. I can't think of one thing the Alexias do better than the S5's. Isn't it amazing that we can have such an opposite reaction ?

Barry, have you ever auditioned the Revel Salon 2's ? If not,I think you should give them a listen.you might like them.

I do want to revisit the Revel line again. I also think they are relevant. As I said earlier there are no Salons on display in Toronto. It seems there are no Studio's on display either but they are coming in. I will search a bit harder. There is a dealer over by Rochester but as soon as you mention your Canadian it's like you got the plague.

With all due respect to other speaker choices in the $25k pr below price point, I have yet to hear a speaker that moves me they way the Salon 2 does. Now, some interesting options are starting to show up around that price point, TADs and Magicos.

It is very interesting that after 5 yrs they remain in the Sterephile list of "A" class speakers - quite an achievement.

Even better, one can find lightly used Salon 2s and Studio 2s for a great price.

My 2 cents...

I don't have Tad in Canada. I can't even remember them at a show. As such I have never heard them. Judging from all the high praise they get I might like them too.

I had never considered the used idea. I will explore that ave.

Interesting to read you comments on the S5 Barry, I called the Canada distributor of Revel in Canada (Industry JAM) and they told there were none available in Eastern Canada to listen too. They told me they would call me once there is one available to audition, interesting to note the distributor is close to my home and even themselves don't have a pair to audition. One Revel dealer told me that with the aditionnal distributor cost the Revels came out to about $5k more in Canada vs the US, probably the main reason why you can't find any in Canada. So if you're interested in Revel buying used from the US is probably your best option.

I've owned both Studio 2's and Salon 2's. They are fantastic speakers and taken to a whole new level with tube amps. Is the S5 better? Yes. But they also cost more. Now S5's with tube amps (especially VAC) might be the ultimate.

Our choice is very limited in Canada, I had a long shopping list when I started auditionning speakers but I had to resign myself with the few models available. Buying from the US was not an option for me. I just bought Angie's Vienna Acoustic The Music demos (will be delivered tomorrow) but I'm under the impression she will be getting another demo pair. If I were you I would give them a listen, not a well known speaker in North America but to me that was the biggest surprise in my search for a speaker. She's also the distributor for Raidho in Canada.

I demoed Vienna a Acoustic at Angie's place as well as D1 and D2. Congrats on the new speakers. Enjoy

I suspect you didn't like the VA's, which is alright as it's probably not everybodys cup of tea. Curious to know how you perceived them as well as the D1 and D2?

I liked the ability to adjust the positioning of the tweeter separate from the speaker. I believe this is a nice bit of flexibility. The tweeter was not for me. D1 caught me off guard for a small speaker. If you are shopping for that size that is probably SOTA for me. After listening to the D2 I am pretty sure that after I listen to the D3 I could never be satisfied with D2. Actually I was not overwhelmed with D2 at all.

Interesting about the D2s. I've never heard them, from knowing the D1 and D3 I had guessed that it would be a real winner. Goes to show you ya just got to listen.

Thanks Mark, the last bit of the puzzle tomorrow when they come to install them. That's when I'll know for sure how they fit with my existing equipment and mostly my room's acoustics, can't wait! :audiophile:

Also will be receiving early in the week a new Nordost Valhalla tonearm cable to finish off the project. I think it will be done for a big long while (or so I told my wife)!:skeptical:

...
The S5 is the best all around speaker that I have ever heard.

It's a Game Changer !

Wow, just catching up with this epic speaker thread.

Mark, is the King finally dethroned?:exciting:

Caio Bella!

Magico S5....Game Changer...YES!

...
The S5 along with the Waves would be a great combo. I think it's time to thin the heard and focus.

Wow, do I smell group by on the S5s? :exciting::exciting:

Don't forget the Biebs. He's Canadian eh?
