Fire may impact worldwide vinyl record supply

Wow, a sad story - the effects of which won't disappear anytime soon.

And then there’s the fire that destroyed a huge amount of master recordings.

Ken

I don’t play vinyl and the thought of that makes me sick.

How can companies not see the valuable commodity they have.

Are master recordings not stored in a fire proof vault?

There really is no such thing as fireproof or bulletproof. There are however, fire resistant and bullet resistant.

Sure you can make a four hour fire rated vault... but what happens if the fire burns for five hours?

I agree but, soggy vinyl from water is better than not.
I would bet there are options for more than 4 to 5 hours. Assuming they really want to protect them.

Mike Fremer spent a few minutes at the Florida Expo commenting on this fire and it’s impact to the vinyl industry. Of course, extremely concerning since the only other provider is not able to scale up to meet demand. And, environmental laws would make it very difficult to open another plant - at least in California.
