EV Cars

with the help of the US taxpayer !

The electric car tax credit phases out when a manufacturer sells 200,000 total qualifying vehicles, no matter the model. Tesla exceed that # some time ago.

The credit ranges between $2,500 and $7,500, depending on the capacity of the battery. The credit begins to phase out for a manufacturer, when that manufacturer sells 200,000 qualified vehicles.

I am a landlord. Having previously owned a small business, these homes were intended as part of my retirement portfolio.
I don't understand (nor agree with) the ability of a government to take away my source of income on one hand, while still demanding me to pay the taxes, utilities, maintenance, registration and inspection fees. Plus there is for many landlords loan payments to the bank that need to be met. All while not receiving ANY income.
If the government wishes to impose such restrictive policies (which I don't understand how this can be legal) on business owners (landlords) they should justly compensate them.
Can you imagine the government telling WalMart that they need to maintain an ample supply of food in their stores yet the customers don't have to pay for it?????

I'm with you 100% ... that's why I believe your government should support you during this period of harsh times. I've read that they may extend the evictions, with support (financial) coming to you. You'd be able to drive an EV next.

Here in California Teslas seem to be almost every 5th car I see on the road. I expect delivery of a Model S Long Range (405 miles) this month. I have yet to encounter a single owner who wasn't extremely pleased with theirs. Many claim it's the finest and most pleasing auto they have ever owned. Many YouTubers say the same. My average daily trip is 80-100 miles. I will charge at home overnight with surplus energy from my 9 year old solar system, so Zero cost, and no trips to the gas station! Since I live in the boonies, my nearest gas station (8 miles away) charges $4.99/gallon.

Auto Pilot is proven by statistics to be far safer (fewer accidents/100,000 miles) than any human driver, although the driver still needs to be paying attention. Full self driving will happen very soon. It's only a matter of time before the many naysayers on this thread will have to change their opinion!

Earlier this year, Springtime, dams in the Northwest were at extra capacity for about 30 days, really messed with the early fish spawn. All the extra energy being produced was diverted to California cause Cali wasn’t able to sustain its own power.

You guys are really missing the point and the urgency you face in California. The Central Valley does since their water has been cut this year and crops were not planted.

Wait until they shut off the turbines at Lake Powell or Lake Mead then Cali will go dark.

EV is here to stay, and grow. That's the future wave of riding.
Gas will collapse, water will deplete, heat will get hotter.

This COVID-19 pandemic is no good for renters, landlords, first time house buyers.
It's no good for a lot of people.

Even EV needs chips to run them, and this shortage will intensify according to experts.

We need to be creative, proactive, reinventing our energies; we need to wise up and find solutions to world's issues...health and wealth wise.

Speaking of which ... power ...

Batteries, hydro turbines, solar energy, wind turbines, ocean turbines, nuclear fusion, ... we need to recharge our batteries, and cleanly...just like listening to our music without noise pollution.

* I am not a landlord, so I don't face the hardship. Sorry for the troubles this virus brings to you, to your tenants, to a whole lot of people across the four corners of our globe.

With great power comes great responsibility.

I will do my best to hold back the tears ...!

"Captive market" WTF?? You must be out of touch with reality. Almost every auto manufacturer in the world now realizes EV's are the future and are scrambling to catch up! Those who don't will be out of business.

Nope , you are the one out of touch , every Manufacturer is being paid-a vig to build EV’s , you should read their Paris accord doctrine ...!

Please feel free to explain how EV’s make for a better future ..!

Regards

The push for EV will clearly benefit China once again. No surprise there...

look at Volkswagen, MB, BMW, Ford,GM, etc.

China:
China has one EV veteran — BYD, or Build Your Dream — the Warren Buffett–backed automaker that has been making electric models since 2008. However, Tesla currently makes the best-selling electric cars in the Chinese market. Now everyone else is piling into the industry, from Chinese state-owned auto groups like SAIC to foreign companies like VW, from indebted real estate groups like Evergrande to tech giants like Tencent, Huawei, Baidu, and Didi Chuxing.

While it has already succeeded in building a fantastic auto that surpasses $M sports cars in performance, needs little service, and will have a very long life with low operational costs, it is actually an advanced software company. It is way ahead in Full Self Driving (FSD) and will be a worldwide leader.

It is clear that ICE engines are as advanced as they will get, but we can not continue to use them for all the known reasons! EVs are far more efficient in their use of fuel, and are clean. We now have the means of producing electricity without pollution or greenhouse gasses.

We are FAR from having the means of producing electricity to charge the EVs without pollution and greenhouse gases.
