Did you ride today?

Dan, here's a link to that ride/race I brought up after you did the Tour of Battenkill. It's on my bucket list.

Dirty Kanza 200 » World's Premiere Gravel Grinder

You're absolutely right about the faster and farther comment. Whenever I think I'm going to do a nice little leisurely ride I find myself trying to go faster and faster as the ride progresses.

Go for it! Your muscles are going to hate you while you are doing the race but the satisfaction afterwards, priceless. No need to win just give yourself a goal of finishing. Don't procrastinate, we are not getting any younger so you have to try it now (well 2015). Nothing better than a goal to make you stronger. Look at it as an investment in living healthier and longer. I would start with the 100 miler and progress from there.

If you are going for the 200 miler you better start training now cause it's one hell of a long ride. Don't remember doing that long a ride myself.

If you need support I'm there for you Doug

Reminds me of the saying, though I don't think it was originally specific to cycling: climbing is like wrestling a gorilla, you don't quit when you're tired, you quit when the gorilla is tired.

Dan you don't have to tell me that I'm not getting any younger, each year it takes a little longer to recover from those long rides. I would definitely start with the 100 miler and see how that goes. Thanks for the encouragement, I appreciate it.

I said damn the wind today and got out for a quick 18 miler. It was blowing a constant 20-25 mph and was tough getting up some hills with that in my face but it felt great to be out there and I got the chance to try out some new bibs I bought over the winter. Boy there's nothing like a brand new chamois to sit on is there?!!!

Good man! You're better thanI, was supposed to go out today but stuff got in the way.

Which bib did you buy? Shorts and shoes are probably the most important components in cycling notwithstanding helmets.

Just bought some Assos T.Cento shorts last week. expensive yes, confortable absolutely. I only use Assos and Capo for longer rides, well worth it may I add if you suffer from saddle sores as I do. Mind you the jury is still out as to which Assos I like better, I have some F1 Mile which I absolutely love.

...

Steve, Dan and Bob are in a class by themselves. Yesterday I went out on my 3rd or 4th ride of the season: 24 miles, 1,000+ feet of climbing, 13mph winds. And I'm sure Bob was still faster and stronger on his ride!

1,000 in 40km is no easy ride by any mean Allen, keep it up.

...

The comment about Lemond was to have a reaction, I guess it worked :baby: .

Ha, thanks Dan. But we all know your recovery rides are a lot more rigorous than this!;)

Saw a shot of Lance tooling on a bike. Looked ragged. Greg LeMond is a class act!

It's nice to hear about your rides, guys. Just when I get some time to go out this week we're scheduled for rain the next six days. Looks like the trainer will be my friend.

Allen
, how are things going with your rides? Is the saddle issue going away? Hopefully it becomes a thing of the past.

Thanks for asking Doug. Did the ride yesterday, and tried another one today. My rump was tender, but not in pain, so that's a good sign!:) I guess the saddle is ok and I just need to HTFU now...

I love this!:D

Sounds like a tough ride: uphill with headwinds! Keep doing a few of those each week and the 100miler will feel like a walk in the park! Like Dan said, we're with you man!

I think Doug's a Castelli guy, like me.

How's the chamois on the Assos? Castelli is about my max price point, but if the chamois on the Assoss is good... Nothing to pricey for my tender tooshie:rolleyes:

Simply said don't ever try Assos if you are not in the market to buy them ;) . Secondly chances you will never buy anything else once you buy Assos.

Allen's right Dan, I'm a Castelli guy. I bought the Free Aero bibs. I love Castelli's multi-layer chamois. I've always wanted to give Assos a try.

We won't know about that until we ride together.
;)

As for Lance he's a fierce competitor but unfortunately a poor human being IMHO. Lemond I like very much although I preferred Fignon back then.

I remember trying them in a store a few years back but I never bought them, don't remember why though.

I have some Assoss thermal layers. They are very nice, but I don't use them much though. I tend to use smartwool now, less cold when the humidity rises inside the jacket.

I have only used Gore shorts or bib shorts thus far. Would love to try Castelli or Assoss when they come on sale.

Doug, I use Castelli Free jerseys and jackets. The jacket is awesome!

Allen, the Free jacket looks really nice. I have their Zoncolan jacket that I use for winter riding. It's amazing. Perfect fit, super warm without being bulky and great workmanship. I might have to pick up a Free jacket now. :P

I think the Zoncolan jacket is a great winter jacket for the coldest of riding days. The Free has a thinner warming layer than the Zoncolan and breathable sides (i.e., no windstopper material there) that I like, but I don't use it in the coldest of days. I use the Castelli Espresso Due for the coldest days, which like the Zoncolan, is Windstopper everywhere but has a few vents that come in handy.

I'm sold! Like I need more riding clothes. I think I own more cycling clothes than regular clothes.

Ha, tell me about it! Like audio gear, you have try things to see if they work for you or not. Just because it works for someone else doesn't mean it will work for you. I have TONS of unused or lightly used cycling clothes.

Easier to sell used audio gear than cycling clothes that's for sure. Slightly used cycling shorts for sale, 50% off...........

I think some of it does happen. When I was on a cycling forum some guys were talking about buying used kit. Don't think I could do it though. May just donate to charity and take a tax write off.
