I see that this thread has been dead for a little over 5 years, so let's try to resuscitate it! I enjoyed this new recording this morning.

One of the new recordings by john wilson i like very much.

Ilmari Hannikainen. 1892-1955.
Piano quartet, opus 2.
Oliver Triendl, Christel Lee, German Tcakulov, Jonathan Roozeman.
2025, Kupferhaus Planegg, Reutlingen, Germany.

For me a new composer. In my large collection there is nothing of him. I am not much into piano concertos, so it's the Piano quartet I play, which is a wonderful piece in the late romantic style. He never strays from this direction, which is fine by me. Little of him is recorded. On the Hansler label I found a Symphony and yet another piano concerto which stands to reason, the Piano was his instrument. Will in time also listen to that CD. The sound of this CD is a bit of a mystery to me, for I cannot define how it sounds other than it sound peculiar. All instruments are accounted for, and I hear everyone of them in great detail, not diffuse yet its not clear. And it is quite frontal, hard and to closely miked. The acoustics of the Kupferhaus is to blame.
