CES news 2014

Thanks Myles! Lots of pictures around so it was good to get a perspective on which rooms sounded nice as well as equipment "worth bringing home".

+1, thank you, Myles!

Mike, thinking of some changes to the system?

Allen,

No major changes. I'm extremely happy with the Alexias and the DAG amp. I spent over 10 hrs listening yesterday and loved every minute.

I do want to replace the ARC DAC8 and the Shunyata Black Mamba speaker wires. The DAC is still to be determined. Speaker wires will be either Shunyata Pythons or Anacondas.

Thx!

Mike,

I have the Anaconda SCs coming in. Should be good!:audiophile:

Allen - Look forward to your comments. I will not order the SCs until March. The DAC is probably later in the year at the earliest.

Few more pics that aroused my curiosity ::

loving the verity with lamm. Did anyone listen in there? I use the amadis but the ones that were at ces are what I'd like to be using ;)
Also really interested in the nagra DAC, and that's coming from a vinyl head. Also going the other way as Myles has espoused, just tuning up a nagra iv-s reel to reel for some tape playing :)
thanks for sharing the pics!

I did but don't think was at its best with analog. Bob didn't because of the weather get there until Wed (?) and was still futzing with the AF1 when I was there Th. So I don't think the system was hitting on all cylinders.

Hi Myles,

I'm sure Bob must have been livid with what he had to deal with just to get there due to the crazy weather and messing up flights, looking at the TechDas cart likely added fuel. Appears it doesn't have the friendlies stylus being hard to see when setting up, any idea what type of hours it had on it.

I really like that table set-up :)

Sorry no I don't know the number of hours. Don't forget that Bob's jig makes setting up any cartridge in his arms a breeze; usually doesn't take more than five mins for any cartridge.

Many seem to demo NEW with no hours, which isn't good - Bob's jig is a good starting point when it comes to set-up :)

Myles, is Bob's jig similar to VPI's ?

No, not at all. Let's say you remove your arm, install the cartridge, turn the arm upside down and then use Bob's jig. You basically then align the cantilever/stylus to the inscribed lines. Bob, unfortunately, has a patent on his jig and won't make it for any other arm.

Great coverage guys. The one thing that is so apparent in all these wonderful photo's though is the lack of people. The show looks empty!

Attendance was way down due to the enormous number of flight cancellations. Good for those of us who were there, bad for the manufacturers who paid tens of thousands to be there.

Unbelievable that they still use the 801 aka the washing machine.
That sound is far away from the current B&W sound.

Add to that the record albums (vinyl LPs) at the right on the floor, the turntable, and the tubes, and you get the perfect 'nostalgia' recipe. :) Nothing extravagantly and fashionably sexy here, simple 'yesterday' feel. ...Just like that Beatles' tune.
