I don't need advice ..I just want to vent and have a shoulder to cry on.

So my turntable project. The plinth is beautiful. I have been working on painting the arm base. I put two coats on and she was 99% beautiful. Hmm..1% ? One very small not noticeable blem that only I could see. So I let it dry for about 30 hours. Resprayed...AHHHHYYYYY...It made some sections crackle dammit. I have had this happen before.

So I wait 24 hours. Sand it down smooth. Clean surface. Spray again. Now even more crackles as the paint reacts.

Breathe.

Breathe.

So tomorrow I will sand it all down again.

Wait two days.

Remove what's left (its enamel) with oven cleaner or simple green.

Wait a day.

Prime.

Paint.

It crackles again I am going to tell you guys its a faux finish.

Thank you for listening (if you were here you would see me building a time machine out of wires, capacitors and tubes so I can go back to the original paint job - where is a DeLorean when you need one ? )

That sucks. It's always so disheartening to spend a ton of time in prep work to have it come out bad at the paint phase.

Oh that sucks!! Been there plenty of times. Sometimes it is in the paint. Especially spray cans.
Get yourself an airbrush and small compressor for cheap.

You see, we learn something new everyday. Didn't know about that TV series!

In all seriousness, the problem with doing something yourself is that you know all the flaws. You have to step back and look at it the same way commoners would look at your work. BTW I know I'm a weekend woodworker (gave the paint shop duties to my dear wife, she enjoys it and she better at it than me).

Yeah...this is not the first lesson though..I have done the same thing before...sheesh..now I have to figure out how to successfully redo it.

And I do own a nice sprayer and compressor (air brush) and never took it out of the box to learn how to use it...brand new...MY FAULT

So best I can do now, step back, stick with my rework plan. I just don't want to damage the arm...everything that needs to be is masked but I worry about small particulates...I am impatient because everything else is ready to go - and that's the key..patience

Don't worry, I have her working on the airbrush and she has 3 books from the library. She is so good, I figure I will have enamel tattoos by the end of the week...hmmm...maybe a tube amp with a pitchfork? Or a turntable that says MOM....LOL
