The WE300b's are King...but for new production, the Elrog's are excellent (the young Prince?). I want to put my Replica 101D's back in.

As for Rectifiers, I haven't found anything close to the military grade one I'm using now.
 
Recti military grade...is that the 5u4g or the 5r4gy?

Where would you place the EML meshie in your ratings table? Below the ones you mentioned for sure, but how far?
Have you tried WE vintage 101ds tennis balls or ST shape?
 
I like:

1. WE300b
2. Elrog 300b
3. EML Anniversary
4. ....still need to compare others. I have a boat load of tubes to try - including the Replica 300b's, GL 300b's, Treasury 300b's and 101D's among others.

My fav recti is the JAN 5U4G. I want to put more hours on the 274b replica, but so far, the RCA JAN 5U4G beats all others, including my other RCA rectifier, EML, Psvane 274b, etc.

I would love to try a WE recti to go with my WE300b's!
 
I wouldn't bother with the Psvane 274b, I have it, and didn't like it at all, nor did my friends. I have a RCA 5u4g, my favorite is a 20quid or so Russian recti I got from Lukasz via the UK distributor (not even sure what it is as the writing is faded but will look it up tonight). Those who demo my dac prefer that one to.

I haven't tried that many though
 
WRT rectis,

I have lots but vintage stuff from the Barn.

My current favs are the Phillipsmetal base GZ34 (and ceramic base Mullards) and also the 1954 GE 5r4gy. the Shuaguang stock 274b is also very nice. i have quite a few 5u4g tubes in different shapes (tungsram/RCA/Sylvania/GE), at least 1 GZ37 (less preferrred skinny bottle), 5Y3s, a Brimar 5Z4, Mazda 5z4, some 5v4s and on the way is a black plate 1940s double D getter 5r4gy. I also have type 80 and 83v murcury filled rectis that Greg in the UK loves so much...adapters needed for these.

Can some people please get together to do this?

1. Compare SE to balanced
2. Compared Balanced Lampi to SE GG in a full balanced system
3. Compare Big 7 with high quality valves, like Elrog 300b or original WE 101D to GG with cheaper quality valves (replicas)

Joe would have to get together with Andy, who has a GG and a B7, both SE (Andy has got SOME tubes there). No Bal GG yet in the filed, AFAIK, just the sample one on FB, Lampi page. I could be wrong though...

We don't need a Bal GG for this test. If Bal B7 > SE B7, all we need to check is if Bal B7 > SE GG. Goes without saying Bal GG will be the best if we prove Bal > SE in any of the models.

The point 3 was to check if upgrading valves had bigger effect than upgrading from B7 to GG

Joe and I have plans this weekend. Andy may join us. I heard Andy's GG, with Elrogs, this week. I have a SE Big 7. We will be comparing Elrog 300Bs and Takatsuki 300Bs. The Takatsuki have about 60 hrs on them. The Elrogs have not been put in. I have been holding off comparing and saying anything because of multiple family health issues that have kept me away from audio.

Sorry to hear that Bruce. I hope the problems will resolve themselves favourably very soon. Keep strong in the meantime.

I know you are a part of the triumvarate, but didnt mention you as you didnt have the Balanced Dac to compare with Andy's 2 SE Lampis.
BTW, Andy was here like 2 weeks ago and we finally met in person...till LATE in the night with a couple other audiophiles, shooting the breeze.

There is another Andy (Geardaddy or Agear) who you were discussing analog v. Lampi with, who now owns a GG and uses inexpensive tubes (6a3s) and previously owned a Big 7. You may want to PM him for his thoughts.

i just swapped in a preferred series 274B/5U4G from the tubestore.com in my Lampi.

BIG, BIG 3D is back. So far, so good. More to come.....
