If recommended power is < 1wpc; why in the world, are 400wpc monoblocks sitting there?

Thanks Mike, great to see you as always. Strong Tampa area presence here.
I can see why Myles likes these Viero Cables, very transparent. I could use them to work out:D
I'm also impressed with the Power Modules stuff. Many folks tend to forget about David Belles, but he's forgotten more about amps than I will ever know. The MB60s we're using here are 60 watts of pure Class A. Dead silent on the 100+db/w D1s. <$10k per pair!
Hope anyone from AS identifies themselves so I can put the name with a face.
Great show so far, very good turnout. Miss that 85 degrees though...hah.

cheers,

AJ

I was very happy, to see David's amps present. I've owned 5 or 6 in my day, and they are always good performers for the price.

My first "audiophile" grade amp was from David Belles (150A hotrod) and it was superb. He is a very unassuming guy who does not do the self-promotion thing well and thus tends to get overlooked.

Great show reporting BTW. It is a deadzone otherwise.

Who wouldn't want 400 watts of Class D power running their horn speakers that are so efficient they would blow your room down with 3-4 watts of glorious Class A tube power?

I was impressed with both the sound and the looks. The airbrushing was stunning and my wife loved it.

madfloyd: Did Walter finally clear out some chairs for that room? When I heard them they didn't sound that great as the room was overfilled with people and they had 4-5 rows of chairs. :weird: They did have a great deal on the demo pair, hopefully some one buys them, I agree the finish was stunning.

Gershman Acoustics out of Toronto. 89db. 6ohm. $12,000. GREAT sound!

The black base you see is actually a bass trap. As a result, they didn't need any room treatments and got fabulous bass.

I hope there were more people in attendance than what that photo makes it appear there were. That kind of looks like Myles was giving a eulogy for someone who died that no one really gave a damn about, but some people were compelled to attend against their wishes. Even the panel members look pretty grim in that picture.

Don't judge too harshly based on a very poor photo. I thought it was an excellent seminar, informative and positive. I think the future of tape is bright.

I was simply hoping more people were in attendance than what the picture showed.

I'm curious; bright in what way? I don't like LP's but I'd have tape (again) in a second if I thought there were going to be enough music I like at a price I could justify, but without a time machine into the past I don't see how that can happen, much less will happen :|

As Myles pointed out the other morning over breakfast, there are more companies making tape available now then there were last year or the year before. If this trend continues, availability should increase along with the selection of material. Tape will remain a niche within a niche (meaning high end stereo) because of its price. Many people wouldn't pay for the cost of 2 new blank reels of tape let alone 2 new reels of tape with licensed music on them. Some digit heads bitch about the cost of a hi-rez downloads at $25 to $30 per album so when you contrast that mentality against the cost of bringing tape to market, you can't win. Now we are entering the world of streaming where future generations may never own a single piece of music in any format because they can 'own' the world's music for $20 per month even though the artists are starving precisely because they can't sell any physical medium.

Unfortunately, Sunday is death for seminars. The Ask the Editors panel was also lightly attended (that's why asked for Sat last year but this panel got thrown together last minute). We did have a lively discussion and Phil Blackman of Dangerous Analog was very interesting. Heard one track from his upcoming jazz release in Greg's room afterwards and it was outstanding.

Thanks Mark! One of the opening remarks I made at the forum today was when we held the first tape seminar three years ago at Axpona, the supply of hardware often outstrips the
availability of software (see SACD, etc.); at that time, five companies were releasing 15-ips R2R tape. Today, The number has increased dramatically to now 18 companies releasing tape. Yes, rock still is underrepresented but there are probably now over 100 tapes for sale. Plus and I didn't mention, the sale of hi-Rez digital downloads like for Opus 3 is also helping people like Jan-Eric release more and more tapes. Plus other companies like Yarlung are recording in parallel PLUS Yarlung just finished their first four recordings in native 4X DSD and are now available for download. (sponsored by Exasound.)

On another subject not mentioned, USB may become a connection of the past as companies are shifting to an Ethernet CAT 5 type connection. That may really benefit the sound as more and more people are finally owning up to the issues with that USB connection!

Guys,

Thanks a lot for the excellent coverage. Very good pictures and perspective on equipment and, more importantly, the quality of the sound of music.

Yes, rooms in shows are never perfect but these events do offer the opportunity to see and hear a lot. Also, a great place to buy music and get together with friends.

For those that attended, it would be great to get your perspective on the following categories:

- Favorite System
- Best Value/Budget System
- Surprise system or component (in a positive way)
- Did you see any new trends?

Purposely stayed away from disappointing components or systems.

By the way, I planning to attend RMAF. Hope to see you guys there.

Thx!
