Aside from Stillpoints, what else do you use for isolation

I find this topic interesting and I'd love to experiment, but I often wonder...since my system is in the basement which is carpet/padding on a concrete slab, do I really need to worry much about isolation from the floor? Right now I just have my amps and speakers on 1 & 2 inch thick cutting boards to keep them off the floor...which saved my butt when my basement flooded...no damage to the audio equipment!

No rack. I'm still trying to decide on which way I want to go on racks. Right now all I have are their Ohio based amp stands.

Jock, interesting. Do you have one of their audio racks (Scuttle or Craz) or just custom amp stands? I like the way they look and was wondering how well they work relative to Ultra 5s under each component on say a less expensive rack.:skeptical:

Got it. When you come up with your short list, I'd be curious what you are considering.

cheers

Hi Lunchy, in addition to floor vibration, I have found (in my own system) there are two other sources...1) from speakers/airborne and 2) from within the unit itself.

By damping each component, I have found significant improvement in 'solidity' and 'density' of the sound signal. That said, I would be inclined to agree...a solid foundation under your system is a tremendous asset...not all of us have that. my two cents.

For components I use ttweights isofeet and Todds Footers. They both work well but I find Todds footers to work with heavier components as well. I have them under my 75 lb Ray Lumley tube mono blocks and I am going to get some more for my 120 lb Jeff Rowland amp.

I use HRS (Harmonic Resolution Systems) S1 Isolation bases under by pre-map and turntable. At some point I will replace the HRS Nimbus Couplers that sit under my 808 CD player with another one of their bases. I have been tempted to try them under the amps but I like the look of my current stands that sit a few inches higher than the S1's would.

* Speakers: Arrow points. ...Available is Sports stores where they sell bows and arrows. ...Fifty cents each (comes in various lengths and types).
{They have a small diameter thread; so some custom work is required. -- Drill and small rubber washers; I like the blue ones.}

* Audio/Video components: Squash balls cut in half. ...One dollar each (or two), when on sale. I like the high density ones (black color ones).

* Turntable: Shortest arrow points under a solid wood base (custom made). ...And the table between that wood base and squash balls cut in half (remove original feet).

* Speaker cables: Pipe tubing (insulation).

- Alternative for under the speakers directly on a wood floor: Rubber squares (high density) that have a heavy duty sticker to stick under the speaker (one-inch square, but comes in various sizes).

Don't ask if I noticed a sound difference; I'm sure there is. Plus! It is extremely inexpensive; with the money I save I eat better food, and I drive a better car, and I take out beautiful women at the restaurant and Jazz club alley. ...Dining and dancing.

But that's me.

My DAC has Harmonic Resolutions Systems' Nimbus Couplers.

Synergistic Research MIGs under my amp and MIT SC Network boxes.
Symposium Rollerblock Jr.s under my transport and PLC.

Speaking of magnetic levitation devices, I use a Nobility Magnetic Levitation rack under my Lenco table. It is a little on the expensive side compared to footers but it is very well made and has improved the sound by making the background darker (quieter) and improved the detail a bit. I use a Denon DL-103R and a Consummate phono stage. I'd post a picture but I need 10 posts to do that.

Okay, here's the rack.;)I have since replaced the ARC PH3 in the picture with a Consummate phono stage and preamp.

Mapleshade Micropoint brass footers under all electronics, including power conditioner. The footers couple the vibrations to a Mapleshade Samson V.3 rack with maple shelves, which, without gear, weighs 400 pounds. Speakers use stock spikes, but are on Mapleshade 4" speaker plinths with brass carpet piercing spikes.

My DAC also has HRS Nimbus/Couplers underneath...I have since added an HRS M3 which I picked up 2nd hand...very rare! I also use an HRS long, double-thick damping plate on top. Stunning improvement. Stunning. Big fan.

Great stuff...and great CD player. I have heard the 808.2i. Have you tried their HRS damping plate (the double thickness one) on top? I started with HRS Nimbus underneath and damping plate on top...and decided when I got an HRS M3 platform (2nd hand...very rare!) that I would keep the Nimbus/Damping plate with the DAC. And I definitely preferred it that much more by keeping the whole thing together. Wonderful.

Would the Nimbus support the weight of your amps? Or are you saying you'd put HRS Platforms under the amps?

Big fan of SRA for amp, preamp and especially turntable. I like to use multiple combos - for example symposium ultra shelf sitting on top of a viscous gel - like pipe insulation wrap I bought at Home Depot.

Solidtech ROS w/Ultrasonic acrylic shelves; Nordost Ti pulsar points support ROS, Quantum QB4, JRDG 625, and Definitive Technology SC8000.
