Another Hypex NC-500 based amp unveiled

I got back a reply from the website contact I did couple of days back.

Price is €4000/pair (the costliest of NC500s) and custom input buffers.

Well it does have a nicer case. I wonder if the buffer is IC opamp based?

Indeed, the case looks nice but Taiko won't reveal the details. Couple of folks who heard in the Munich show said the system sounded good.

In my experience I've found when your shy to reveal details, it's for a reason. If it's something that will make them look better, they would be sure to boast about it. Just like all the details of their server which would be meaningless if used with a DAC that had a extra $10 invested in the USB implementation. It's no different than Bel Canto's $5000 Ref600m. Sounds wonderful on paper till you see the input board.

The music server costs high as well at 16000 €. I asked how would it compare to an Aurender W20 (around the same price point) and was told that this server is optimized and especially designed for up sampling to DSD 512 with HQP. In fact they were using it with the T+A DAC 8 at the show. I haven't heard myself but some folks claim that up-sampling to DSD512 sounds very good.

Its very difficult to isolate how of the sound is contributed by the NC500 Amps itself compared to the rest of the electronics in the chain.

Now let's not insinuate things here. Ed has been very gracious with questions over on CA.
This post gives a fair amount of info on the SGM server ...

The event was more about the launch of the SGM server so it was in good taste that Taiko allowed the SGM team to bask in the limelight. From what I have heard so far it was well deserved. Taiko is a small company that should be given time to choose when they will reveal their products. If this event is any indication they deserve to do it right.

Regards.

I have no doubt that all of measures in the server improve sound with the T+A DAC 8. But if the T+A DAC 8 had a reclocker in its USB interface, a $1000 server with the I7 6700 processor would sound just as good. Ed has claimed that he can hear big differences between computers with that DAC. To me that proves the USB interface implementation is poor. So what's better, the DAC manufacturer spending an extra $10 on the USB interface so it works flawless with any server, or the end user spending 16000 Euro's to make up for it?

It doesn't really matter anyways. Even if it uses a $2 IC opamp based buffer, it still was in a system that was one of the best sounds at the show. This just proves the potential the NC-500's have.

Off coarse I would prefer that to be in the DAC to make it more agnostic of the sources but either way, we as consumers, end up in paying more money :-)

Yes it adds a whole $10 to the BOM of the DAC. I'm just grateful that as a consumer, I'm free to choose products from manufacturers who spent that extra $10, so I can save 16000 Euros on my system, and still get superior sound :)

This: Specifications: Output power: 400 W/8 ohm, 700W/4 ohm, 550W/2 ohm

and all for 4600.00 , time for a good class-D shoot out, quite a bit of players now. I remember some months back on AC, the cheap crown bettered the NC400 according to some, interesting to see if the cheapies can beat the 4600 version...

Class-D , the new slice bread ...

So when can i hear this special DAC .... ?

Go to Purite Audio in London in June for the shootout. The Phison Audio PD2 has a proper built USB interface. It will be used in the shootout. Maybe they can call it DSD 256 fest :)

IMO Servers dont sound better than CD players playing CD copies, been there done dat, interested in only the DAC you keep mentioning..

Always interested in hearing new amplifiers , so much hype around Hypex its hard to imagine what a good shoot out would be like. Apart from Devialet past class-D listening sessions were disappointing.

Ship yours, I'm sure we could give you good info ... :)

It all depends on the server. Can you play a quad DSD file on a CD player? The main advantage to the SGM server and the server I have in the works is the upsampling engine. By using an upsampling engine that preforms superior filter/modulator algorithms, it allows you to send the PCM audio data down a superior pathway in the DAC. It's with redbook where this really shines.

Well mine is just a personal amp. I have no intentions on selling a stand alone amplifier. My belief is the future of high end audio is all in ones like the Devialet, only with good sound :)
