AMG v12 TURNTABLES

Agree--I always go back to the show rooms with the AMG playing glorious--kudos on the purchase:celebrate008_2:!

I want to upgrade the phono cable on my table to the AMG Reference like yours, the Siltech that Kev mentioned, or I just found out that Shindo will make one for me at a very reasonable price. The basic AMG cable sounds great, but that particular cable is bound to be the most important in the entire chain. Decisions decisions...
Bill, Just to add to your decisions, I swapped out the "AMG" private labelled (Cardas) cable for a Steath Hyperphono. Highly recommend it, though you may find shindo synergy with the rest of your shindo system.

My AMG V12 was delivered today by dealer/Shark Mark Jones. I'm just getting started listening and it is such an incredible upgrade that I am just stunned. I'm using the AMG reference tone-arm cable and the AMG Teatro cartridge. Below is a photo of the V12 sitting on my Rix Rax audio rack with the Diapasons in the background. I'm full of joy!

Oh, but which lp to christen this beauty? :doubtful:

Thank you tunes... Was it the basic level cable or the "reference" AMG cable that you left? Also, thanks for letting me know they use the Cardas line. Maybe I can glean some information on their phono cable levels. I know the Shindo would be silver. And very reasonably priced as cables go...

Bill,
I was using the ref level AMG cable.

highEndguy.....you should also take into consideration the support and trade-in value of the table. Also the viability of the company as a going concern

I have been following this thread with a lot of enthusiasm because some time down the line I plan to add a AMG Viela to my system too. I currently use Verdier Nouvelle Platine and Jean Nantais Reference Lenco MK2 turntables. I have been also trying various cartridges in the last 2 years. My cartridge search ended with a surprisingly lower priced Audio Technica ART9. Prior to the ART9 I had tried the Benz Ebony TR, Lyra Skala and Miyabi 47. The ART9 superceded all of them convincingly for a price thats quite shockingly low. Well, the ART9 is the flagship of Audio Technica so it should be good but then in audio as we all know price and performance cannot be way too off. I strongly suggest you guys give the ART9 a try. It is not expensive but its neutrality, speed, dynamics and timbral accuracy is up there with every $5k cartridge I have heard as yet and even more it is more accurate than most.

Its always nice to find that hidden gem in the hay stack.....and even better when it doesn't drain the check book. A good example is this past friday I delivered an AMG table with dual arm board. I installed his Graham Phantom III as the second arm and installed his Lyra Delos he had laying around.....it was a fantastic combo, maybe the best I've heard the Delos sound. were talikng a table and arms pretty high up the food chain 25K cost, and the moddest price Delos shined big time.....All to common people not giving the moddest cost cartridges a chance as there is some great sound to be had with them. I would be courious your results with the AT cart on the AMG.

I believe you... It's all about synergy.

It's just such a great t/t, that compliments a lot of cartridges & seems to bring their better qualities to the fore, so pleased with mine.:peace::peace:

Has anyone tried different tonearms on the AMG v12? I am considering getting the upgrade “AMG Turbo” arm, but curious if anyone has mounted a Kuzma 4point or other highly respected arm? (Is possible?)

If so, what were your impressions? Did you compare to the Turbo arm?

It's possible, but I'm not convinced it would make much sense. Sure, tonearms do matter, but the AMG Turbo is such a high level arm which is also very easy to optimize and fine tune (on the fly) that replacing it for the rather clumsy 4point does not really make sense to me. I would rather try a variety of cartridges to find the one for you combined with optimizing the rest of the analog chain including the phono stage and the sensitive cabling involved.

I have to say, your comments indeed are “perfect sense.” And with trade in/up from the standard 12” arm probably the most economical choice. I haven’t seen comments here or elsewhere of people who upgraded to the turbo arm...

I’ve been thinking seriously about a different tonearm too for my Viella/12J2. Not even sure how easy it might be to get armbases from AMG. Would also like to hear about other’s experiences.

The Turbo tonearm is much easier to setup and fine-tune due to having thumb screws instead of insex screws. This alone will indirectly increase the probability of getting better sound besides getting a more stable arm with higher level bearings etc.
