ok i have a pair of 300b's amps on the ups truck headed my way, the ones in my new avatar. they have nice nos 6sn7's and cv378's in them already but the 300b's are new electro harmonic golds. which i read about and are decent tubes, but im looking for a couple other pairs of 300b's that are a little different from each other . doug has been a huge help steering me to places to buy 300b's but im wondering if anyone is using anything special that they really like. that of course wont break the bank. alot of choices and at the price of these tubes id hate to make a bad decision
thanks

Steve - I have Psvane Mark II 300b's and Psvane Western Electric 300b's on the way. I will let you know how they sound. I can say right now the GL300b's represent the best bass and a screaming value.

Congrats, Steve, they look awesome! Happy listening my friend!:audiophile:

oh yea i was looking at those too, id be curious as to your thoughts on them. i saw a couple original western elecs unused from the 60's for $3k each.lol. little out of my league but im sure a collectors item that will be worth more of a fortune in a few years.
im also looking at the shuguangs, id like to get a nice little collection going. ill probably start by ordering a pair of the gold lions after i see how i like the electro harms. please keep me informed of your experiences with these 300b's. and unless they suck ill take the ones you dont use off your hands.lol.

thanks so much guys, i was gonna get some pics when they show up, since my iphone died i actually bought a decent camera, so my photos wont totally suck anymore. the snappers roll out of here in the morning i will miss them but i think i got a good pair of amps an a much needed pile of cash leftover after all was said and done. and i dont think i needed 100w tube amps anyway, i never pushed them much at all. this is a test if i like these and they run my speakers ok @15w, i will dive into the 300b pool a little deeper in the summer. thanks again everyone im keeping my fingers crossed i like these better than the snappers.lol.

i sure can :) the first pic is a stock pic. the rest are the amps i bought taken from the ad i bought them through.
the tubes are the key. id have to spend a pretty penny to get those tubes on my own.

Paul there are a couple reasons i did this. 1. i always wanted 300b's and totally love the sound. 2. i dont work in the winter and instead of preparing for it, i went and bought a new table/arm/cartridge and speakers.lol. so cashing out and getting a months bills out of the deal and still getting amps i wanted was a no brainer.
i thought my jeep was a goner and put up the snappers for sale . thinking i as about to have to buy a new car, but turns out my jeep is ok was just some fouled plugs. so the snappers got an offer the same day these cary came up for sale so i jumped.

a good friend of mine runs 18w amps with 88db speakers and says its fine .he loves it. so im going to try to run 15w with 90db. my speakers dont drop to too low of ohms, so i should be fine.

wow thats a better pic than i found.lol thanks!!!

Sweet! Those are gonna' look so good in my house! I can't wait. Oh Steve, I forgot to tell you that I emailed the seller just moments before he was going to ship them and told him that the price you offered was way too low. I bumped up the price and bumped you right out of the picture. They're on the way to the mitten now. Check the tracking number buddy.

j/k! :woot:

Nice amps, enjoy!

you need them big tubes in the mitten . with the weather your getting, the bigger and warmer the better. lol!!! well it might be a sideways move but i doubt its a step down. they are older amps but so were the snappers. now i gotta make new amp stands, the ones i have i made for the snappers to fit on exactly.

Between the frosty temps and the 110" of snow we've gotten this year so far I've been using my amp to help heat the house this winter. Some people might see it as a lateral move but I think you'll be in for a real treat once you fire them up. Of course I can't be certain since I've never actually heard those amps before... I think you'll enjoy them, but might find yourself looking at some different speakers in the future. Maybe some nice two-ways.

dont even get me started!!!! you know i love a good 2way, and i miss not having monitors around. so where am i getting an efficient monitor from???

Who said anything about monitors? I'm thinking horns like the Avantgarde Uno Fino. :exciting:

From their website:

The Uno Fino's high sensitivity (104 dB/W/m) and hybrid concept, with its self–powered 250 Watt subwoofer, make it very easy to drive with virtually any amplifier. Even with low powered (e.g. tube) amps the Uno Fino is able to deliver a powerful, dynamic and three–dimensional sound, as the power–demanding work at low frequencies is managed by the active subwoofer Sub 221.
