Because even an omnidirectional speaker has a center point with a 10ms delay with the rest of the Omni.

    Which Pass amps are those?

Do they match well with the mbls or does the owner plan to use mbl amps in future?

    Mike -
Are the speakers set up on a basically equilateral triangle with the listener?
Are they affected much by how far you pull them away from the walls?
    Any special footers like Stillpoints?
    Thanks!

Basically an equilateral triangle, but itís not a hard and fast rule. You just want to minimize the room as much as possible. The further away you sit, just like with most speakers (except horns or dipoles), the more the room comes into play. Ideally, you want to minimize the room and optimize the seating position. The further away you sit, just like with cones & domes, the more of the room you will hear.

You want to, ideally, have the speakers 32 inches from the center of the Omni (use the top of the Omni as a guide) to the side or back walls, however, you donít want the side wall and back wall distance to be identical. Vary it a bit. So, 32 inches from the side wall and 40 inches from the back wall.

I would not suggest Stillpoints (we did try them) on the 101ís, but we have had good luck with the stock spikes, ISOAcoustics GAIA feet, and most definitely, a special platform designed for the MBLís by Symposium, which is what I use at home. Using the Symposium platform requires the spikes and spike housing ring to be removed so the speaker is sitting flush with the Symposium platform.

But in the case of my customer, the stock spikes on the thick carpet worked wonderfully.

Thank you! You should hear it! Wow.

MBL definitely doesnít say that. In fact, I would suggest they say NOT along the long wall.

Re: MBL 101e Mk2 install today

No doubt it sounds great! How can MBL not sound great? No doubt the stage would be larger along his 19 foot wall vs the 14 foot wall. But he may have run into bass issues, for which he has some acoustic treatments. Why wouldn't you recommend the long wall setup? MBL always sets up along the long wall at shows, and I believe their manual has the "formula" for this. If they didn't favor this approach, why write it?

  26. #26

Re: MBL 101e Mk2 install today

And it would sound even better if he traded those Pass amps for the MBL amps. I love Pass on Wilsons, but those Noble amps from the The Absolute Sound cover are incredible and would be a much better option for MBL speakers that need a lot of current.

I had a DíAgostino Momentum S250. This amp was a very good match for the 101s; however, the MBLs opened up even more with the power reserves of the 9008As.

Nice!!! I bet if you had the D'Agostino monoblocks it would be a closer match, but no doubt your MBL monos would still beat them bad. And, God, if you ever get the 9011s, Wow! (or a couple more of either!!!!)

If you got a thread about your setup, please link it.

    Enjoy in great health!
