Lumin X1

Am finding it hard to get excited about this TBH. A new Lumin reference DAC to compete with the Esoteric N-01, the new MSB Premiere etc. Just saying.
Long term you may want to stick with Lumin Music Systems (They already OEM their Lumin Application and several analog/DAC technologies to other streamer companies), or MSB? Look up Gibson Guitars. They are the parent company of Esoteric/TASCAM/Philips, TEAC and Pioneer, among others. Gibson just went from junk bond status to becoming bankrupt. Once that happens, all subsidiaries become prime for divestiture which is not a good thing for customer service or product development.

Probably too early to know but if the power supply is much better. Can you use the new one on the S1?

The connectors and the proprietary power supply cord are different from the S1 / A1 / T1 / U1 power supplies, but ...

I deleted my earlier post - for some reason I thought it was just a streamer with no DAC. I am very excited about this and will definitely add it to my shortlist of new DACs!

If the price of € 12,000 is confirmed for the X1, it would be a very pleasant surprise for me. After which, in my opinion, they made a mistake marking the S1 at € 11,500, I was hoping that now, to differentiate them, they would mark the X1 at at least € 16,000. The one that would mark it at €12,000 would be to go back to the pricing policy that started with the A1 that I think was a great price policy.

I'm not involved with pricing, so I'm not giving official figures, but I thought the LUMIN S1 price was reduced in 2016 to...
<80,000HKD
<10,000USD
<10,000EUR
<9,0000GBP

Certainly worth double-checking with your local dealers anyway.

In case they have lowered it, this confirms my point that "slight" changes on the A1 with the sole objective of positioning it in the five-digit segment was not the right thing to do. It seems that in X1 if enough differences exist for that price to be justified.

It sure would be great if Lumin would do a trade in/upgrade program. I have an S1 and would definitely look at doing a trade in for an X1 (depending on what the X1 details are). Peter? See this post? ;-)

Likewise, in my case a U1 > X1

Sorry, I haven't heard of any trade-in/upgrade program.

Well, maybe Lumin could think about it, since its architecture is not modular like MSB, Brinkmann Nyquist or Aqua Formula :D
