Just saw that last night:

It's an older flick from 1956, in black in white, and is based on a true story. ...I enjoyed it! :)
Oh, and it's on Blu-ray (Criterion Collection).

- You know what I like most about older flicks; they bring you back in time (historic/technically/cinema speaking) so that you are more aware of the times we now live in. :cool: or what! ...Almost six decades ago.

* Not the very best movie ever made, but man this is 'Superman Retuns'! :D
- Not great (pretty bad actually), not technically on par with many (picture quality is mediocre),
but Kevin (Spacey) is a funny guy for sure (he plays the bad dude).

Bob...great movie, I agree about the older movies plus I'm a fan of TCM (Turner Classic Movies) check them out if you haven't already.

Ok, now that I've just said what I wanted to say, I got a question.
Because I watch a Blu-ray movie almost every night, sometimes two, should I post here, or start another thread, with the title: What did you just watch last night??

Last night I re-watched this (click on it for a little larger pic):

It is based on real events (1940), and was directed by Peter Weir ('Master and Commander').
It's the story of seven prisoners who escaped the Siberian gulag. ...And the human spirit for survival and ultimate freedom.
...In the most roughest natural elements. ...A 4,000 miles journey, by foot!

I'm glad that I picked that one because I saw in it few things that I previously missed, or more precisely with more emphasis this time around; like the intricate details in the forests for example, the trees, the foliage, the greens and blues, the choice of colors, the amazing cinematography, the vistas, the musical score by Burkhard Dallwitz, the wind, the sound effects (turn it up), the snow and cold of the Siberian winter, the sand of the deserts, the mountain caps, and all that jazz.

I highly recommend it (the Blu-ray is impeccable technically and cost less than $7 or so right now).
And like I said, the replay value is high too.

Total overall score for everything: 77.75%, which is really high in my 'Flick' book. :)
 
Last evening we watched Episode 2 from Season 2 of "Call The Midwife" followed by Episode 2 of "Mr. Selfridge" . It was a PBS evening.

Bob I have read the book! It really is a testament to the spirit of a human being & outlines the worse side of humans as well. A true story that I will never forget that also gave me some substance to add to my way of balancing life.

Kev, I'm not big on reading books (mainly Audio/Video mags), but I got a stronger 'penchant' for films.
And if you got the chance to pick that one up on Blu-ray (I believe it's only $7.99 right now at Amazon), it's worth it, IMO.
The music score in that movie, I truly believe that you're going to love it! ...And everything else, of course.
 
Last night, I revisited this:

Man, I truly feel the exception here in this thread; because I never watch regular TV. ...I used too, but not in the last ten years or so. If I want to know something about something (news, sports, international events, reportages, documentaries, knowledge programs, assassination plots, third World war, prison escapees, snow avalanches, cruise ship crashes, scientific discoveries, biology, cures for diseases, latest Hollywood's gossips, etc.), I simply tune where I want to in my PC. ...But I tell ya, I'm not a TV man because most of what we see is 'flamboyant' stuff with no real substance, or fake illusions, or real sad news, and all that bad jazz. ...Stuff I like is good documentaries; National Geographic style, Nature, Music, History, ...

Anyhow, this is the Blu-ray I re-watched last night:

All the money you save on a big screen HDTV display, quality 3D front projector, eleven speakers (surround sound), four subwoofers (Kaboom), all the speaker wires (hundreds of feet), Blu-ray player, Surround sound/Video Processor, eleven channels of amplification, all those interconnects (tons of them), blah-blah-blah; you can put on a nice pair of stereo loudspeakers, turntable, CD/SACD player, preamp, monoblock amps, and some great stereo music recordings. Did you? I bet you did! :D
