ZU

I really like mine too. Adding an Undertone sub brings the whole sound up a notch!
Enjoy, with a good SET the sound is very musical and engaging.

I currently use an Aleph J clone, and have plans for a V-Fet amp or 2 coming up, all in the Nelson Pass line. I will consider building a 2A3 and or 300b amp at some point.

As to the sub, my room is only 9.5 x 14 feet with a sloping ceiling which is 8 foot on the low side. Even an Undertone will take up more real estate than I currently want to use. I do consider it from time to time. It was 6 months from order to delivery as I got a special finish (polished black). Maybe I will think on it again later this year.

New to the forum, and thought I might first contribute on one of my faves in hifi, Zu spkrs!
I started w/Definitions 2s in 2008, and moved up to the 4s in 2012, recently pimping out w/Duelund caps to high-pass and low-pass filter networks, and Lundahl silver transformers to the Hypex Class D onboard sub amps.

Well, I love 'em, as I know KeithR does.
Happy to help people get a handle on the sound and the brand, let me have yr qs.

I will ask you the same question I asked KeithR, what about the Zu sound entices you over other speakers? Until I get to the Rocky Mountain show this fall, I will not be able to hear the Zus.

I have a pair of Zu Essences. Not a speaker for the detail-crew but a great all-rounder. You can really crank up Zu products and they never break a sweat. I think they'll just continue to grow. Really good customer service.

I would attempt to hear Zu at a different show (Newport for instance) or even better at a Zu owner's home. At RMAF, Zu uses a canyon-sized room that isn't terribly good for sound, but serves the party environment they promote well. They also typically demo with inexpensive Peachtree integrated amps.

Although this year I think the new Zu statement speaker might be shown which would be cool to hear.

New here to this forum. Original owner of a pair of maple Zu Omen Defs (Mk 1 version), paired to a Nightshade Audio NS-40 tubed amp (4 - 6L6WXT+s, 2 - 6SN7s), Warpspeed CE V4x3, and sources in a dedicated music room (sans room treatments) with a pair of dedicated lines. When I got the Zus I spent considerable time both with burn-in and tweaking placement. The rewards are that these speakers continue to provide plenty of toe-tapping fun, (my wife and) I quickly found we were enjoying / listening to the music / not listening to the system. Still wonderful how the music sounds even when we are not in the listening room. I know the MK IIs are appreciably more $ and should sound better for the $; however, the original Omen Defs were somewhat of a relative bargain when they came out. When dialed in, mine provide a wide and somewhat deep soundstage, nice imaging, etc. Happy listening

I did get a matching Undertone this spring. I will agree that the "presense" factor went way up with adding the sub. I am still fiddling with both increasing and decreasing the sub volume. Some music does better with more, but if I leave it up I will come across music with too much energy down low. I am not a "thump" fan.
