....yes, good stuff.

Been a fan since first hearing a buddy's "The New Mix in One Go" back in 1988 or so.

What Yello vinyl full-length LP's do you own? What releases of each (Holland, UK, USA, etc.) sound best?

I only own the Mercury 1987 One Second 832 675-1 Q-1 on vinyl which sounds great. Have 5 or 6 other full length Yello recordings on CD but am searching for other great recording examples on LP now.

What else is out there? Any recommendations?

Hello, great/band. First starting buying back in 83.

The holy grail lp pressings are the German / UK And Euro pressings for Euro/UK pressings from Flag onwards.

Cheers

Thanks, Shane?

I was listening to Flag on CD last night and it got me wondering what LP pressing would be a good example to purchase. I see there are a number of Holland, German, Hungarian and even exYugoslav pressings on eBay right now. Then, some are listed as 180g or not. Some new, some used. I guess I'll just take a gamble on one that looks good.

Did they ever release Motion Picture, The Eye or Pocket Universe on LP? It appears they did release Touch on LP but I've not heard that one at all....

edit: discogs does show all the various releases and it appears Records were indeed pressed of the ones I asked about above, finding them available might be a different story though.

+1 huge fan here too. Have the Mercury German vinyl pressings. I must check out the later UK pressings.... Yello, The Flag will tell you how good your system is.

CDs prior to the 1985 album, not that great. CD Reissues are also technically mediocre.

Music on Vinyl are reissuing on 180g. I don't know if they are as good or better than the original Mercury pressings. Anyone know?

Baby is my favorite.

I've always thought so too....same with One Second, Zebra, Baby, Motion Picture and The Eye as well

Good question. I also see there are a number of Fontana pressings for Flag and wonder how they compare to the Mercury's.

I'm always searching for more Mercury vinyl. Specifically 1980-1985 double LP eludes me with no less than m- grading.

Being the huge fan, if ever I come across a shrink wrapped NOS Mercury, I have to have it!

Mike...Motion Picture is another great album. It was difficult to get the CD. I can't find the vinyl anywhere. :(

Just an FYI (because I forgot to comment on the sound quality in the first post), the Mercury pressing of One Second is another spectacular vinyl pressing and the music is really fun too. I've had my copy since 1988 or so.

I recently picked up a US Mercury pressing of Flag and it sounds great. Will have to be on the hunt for a UK or German pressing now to compare.

Yello puts out some strange music. My daughters think it's tres cool that I found this group some years ago, but they also say that the lead singer sounds like a child molester.

I agree that the sound quality is superb, but I only have them on digital. The LP's must be great.

Have both but have not been able to compare because my Fontana copy is still shrink wrapped. I suspect the Mercury is better.

So anyone tried the Music on Vinyl 180g reissues yet....? The Flag, Stella, One Second. Fetching between $40-$70. I hope they are not from the recent CD re-masters.

Who has been collecting the 12" Mercury singles? Picked up a German collection. Looking forward to seeing how these sound. :)

"...CHIK. Chiki-CHI-KAAAAAAAAA!!!! oh yeaaaahhhhh...!" what a great tune...

Just purchased the CD Touch (with bonus DVD of The Virtual Concert). Have not watched the DVD, but so far the CD is sounding GOOD!

These guys are true masters of their musical style...

NAME & SHAME

I bought 14 Mercury pressings, some rare, one signed by Yello from recordsale & musicberlin GmbH, Berlin. All were supposed to around M-/M- or NM

I requested in both German & English top triple box and mark FRAGILE PHONGRAPH RECORDS. You would expect that a dealer would use the right packaging conventions to ship bulk vinyl records.

They packaged poorly, multiple records crammed into the same outer sleeves, used low cost postal delivery by sea. Box arrived WET and TORN from water soaked damage. Everything saturated and soiled. No mould yet. Some of the vinyl itself maybe OK but all sleeves are heavily degraded. Some item's pre-condition appear to have been exaggerated, so shipping negligence may have been orchestrated to mask true condition of items.

I paid eu100 for shipping. They spent eu35. Needless to say we are talking several hundred Euros in total here.

WHAT a REAL shame. Some very hard to get pressings here. I am going to "push da button on this one".

the vinyl version of this is to die for. Great dynamics and some very nice LOW bass :)

What a royal pita.

Shipped by sea? WTF! Never ever heard of LP's being shipped by sea freight, never even seen it as an option on discogs.

The seller has offered to cover the return cost and offer a complete refund including shipping overcharge.

I have offered to salvage by air drying covers, washing vinyl & re-sleeve before mould starts for the sake of preservation despite my anger. I'm not sure he deserves it but I consider some of them to be important records. Hmmm......

Three of Yello's 12" Singles made it to the TAS Super Disc list. I have them as part of my complete collection of the TAS Super Discs.

Yello Desire (Oh Yeah on the B side) Vertigo 880895-1
Yello - Pumping Velvet, No More Words, Lost Again, Bostich Elektra 0-66979
Yello and Shirley Bassey The Rhythm Divine (Dr. Van Steiner, Tool in Rose on B side) Mercury MERX253 (888746-1)

Now I should probably listen to them!
