WTB EML or KR Audio tubes

This isn't just any normal RCA recti. This was only made in 1944 (and perhaps 1945). Very rare bird.
Yup, WW2 JAN version with double upward sloping getters. Many or the ordinary types out there....not the same thing at all. I initially made that mistake and got the ordinary one...

Mike, how is the reliability of the KR tubes. My Cary amp came with them stock back when Riccardo and Eunice Kron were still around. I don't remember the details, but I thought they initially partnered with Alesa Vaic. However, that changed with time and the Riccardo's death. Thanks, Larry
Except for Elrogs, I have never heard any new tubes fail in a Lampi Dac. The tubes are run at 25% of rated capacity, so its very gentle on tubes. Real that DHTs normally run in power amps...so in a preamp circuit...

Hi Deuter, lukasz is selling these tubes. If you go to the Lampi site, click on technology, then DHT tubes, the KR recti is priced at 330 EUR including vat. You might have to pay additional postage and bank fees

Thanks Norman, I knew you would know! KR242....hmmm...time to call Fred to make sure it will work in my Big 7. Thanks to you, I am loving that 1944 RCA 5U4GY rectifier. What a hidden gem! Paired with the EML Anniversary Globes is a fabulous combination.

I can bring mine down for an afternoon, if you would like ?? Let me know.

Just checked, an original pair of WE 242 get priced around 7 - 9k USD.

Also read this on the Silbatone site: "The rare WE242-C is probably the finest 211 family tube ever produced and one of the best sounding large triodes in our experience."

Sure! I'm down with the flu, so once I'm feeling better I'll come up. Get some hours on those S1 mk2's so we can position them properly when I come up. I'll grab the KR tubes from you then. I still need to bring you those KT88's as well.

I decided to go with the KT-120's. The guys at UpScale Audio said those would work great. So I found a matched set of (8) on Ebay. I will be un-boxing the Magicos today.

Based on what the UK guys say...Kron is the way to go. Only Kron I ever tried was KR242. I have more EML Experience.

Bill says the KR45 beats the EML regular mesh 45. He never tried the anniversary globes...neither solid nor mesh.

Both he and Lukasz say the Px4 are the most quiet DHTs of all.

Bill and Kedar both say that the PX4 is a must try....i tell them the EML mesh globe is the bomb.

So so between the two KR, 45 and PX4 is the preference for PX4 ?

That I cant say. Bill just said that given MY tube experience so far, my next try should be the PX4.

I have attached the specs sheet for my Lampizator.

It came stock with Psvane 101d Hifi DHT and a 5U4C rectifier.

Wow,nicely specced Dac you have there Deuter...dual voltage too with r2r dsd256.

What I really wanted to check was item #24, absolute signal volume in mV. I see yours is mid range at 670....well guess what, my GG says 2,500mv.
No wonder the KR242 tubes don't work for me! I would guess they work well for you, just as they do for my pal in Basel who also has a lite 7.

Where do I find the 242 , looked online but they don't list that tube.

Mike LaVigne (at WB Forum)has a pair he may sell. Lukasz also sells them as does Mike B. here (he is a Kron dealer). My Swiss pal has a similar unit to yours and had great luck with the Kr242 tubes. His Voltage output max is 412mV while mine is 2,500mV!!!!

See his feedback below:
I had the KR242 on the 101d setting yesterday, because I wasn’t sure if the 300b setting might harm them …. had them on for 4 hours and they started to open up a little. And yes, they are much louder than any other tube I have.
As a rectifier I have the stock Chinese one from Lukasz and EML 5U4G. The EML is the one I use now.
When I got the L7 first thing I tried was 101d WE replica. Next up were a pair of Elrog 300b. They were king (really nice fat bottom end, which I like), but sadly only lasted for 2 months. The seller took them back.
Next I jumped on the 45 anniversary globes from Lukasz when he announced them last fall. They are really nice in terms of soundstage and width and so forth but have a little less bottom end than the Elrogs.
Now two months ago the Elrog seller contacted me again, asking if I was interested to try the Elrog again. They did some modifications in the meantime to make them more robust. If they break again he will take them back.
I hope they will last a bit longer this time …
And now the 242 arrived (ordered them around Christmas).
Btw… I can’t do 6a3 on my machine (crossed out on the back by Lukasz)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

OK, I found the spec sheet: absolute max signal volume here is 412 mV
… and yes the 242 have so much gain whereas I had the volume pot at 12 o’clock before it’s now around 9!

btw … received the RCA WWII 5R4GY recti on Thursday…. tried it so far with the KR242 and the 45 mesh globes from Lukasz … sounds very good … not totally different than with the EML 5U4G though. maybe a bit smoother bass.
I need some more time to compare ….

Hi Norman, I will be very interested in his feedback on 242s vs the Elrogs, please keep me updated, especially if he listens to classical. What speakers does he have?

Hi everybody!
First post here .... but Norman already introduced me (Swiss pal in post 35) ....
I have a Lite7 with tubed rectifier since a year now.
Here's the rest of my system:
Rowen Absolute PRE
Rowen Absolut RA 1&1 tri-active full range speakers (fully bi-polar)
(Transrotor New Classic Turntable with Benz Glider cart.)

@bonzo: a bit of classical but not so much really

here's a very NEW problem (since this afternoon): wanted to try the Elroy 300b with my new RCA rectifier .... One of the Elrogs is making a buzzing noise on the 300b setting. when I switch to the 45 setting it stops immediately. damn!
it's my second pair of Elrogs. one tube of the first pair died after two months. the replacement pair was supposed to be more robust ...

hmmm ....

Stefan
