Would You Go?

I could care less what an artist's personal spiritual beliefs are as long as they are not trying to shove it down throats or mixing it with politics. I do like songs about the passions of our times and activism and such, it's part of the reason for music, just look at folk music for a prime example. Let the music talk. When I go to a show, I go for the performance and music, not for a sermon or cheerleading. I'm ok with an artist mentioning something they are passionate about though (I might even agree with it), but as long as they don't drone on about it for 30 minutes. I don't think that's the norm with most true artists though and Cat Stevens or whatever he wants to call himself is a true artist and I'm pretty sure he is aware of how little it takes to loose an audience.

There are artists I could list for a long time that hold something in strong belief or passion, that have written song after song about it and have been involved in doing things to promote or bring awareness that most folks don't realize. The only one most folks hear about are what the sensationalist media covers or some loud group of spoilers scream to try to put a damper on artists they don't like. That's also a fairly long list.

If you want to know how ridiculous it is, years back I used to get flak for listening to Yes albums!

Point is, it's about the music and folks should not be afraid of going to a show of an artist they like. I admit, there is one thing though that scares me......ticket prices these days.:)

Incorrect.

There are plenty of performers / bands (including symphonies) that don't postulate or pontificate just because they find themselves in front of a captive audience and have a mic at their disposal. Not saying Cat Stevens would do this himself during a concert but I just don't like his music enough to find out.

The act of shutting up and playing is a far more professional and respectful approach to a paying audience IMO.

Since he denounced his past musical life and all his old albums, what would he play?

EDIT- Just read the very last sentence where he now says he will play his old classics. He needs to stop flip-flopping on us.

Yes, I also read that he now regrets denouncing his past musical life and the reasons he did so which according to him, involved worries of acceptance with the politics going on. I think in the interview I read he mentioned being aware that things are worse now in that regard and that he would play his old classics. He's also releasing a Blues album,......so, yeah...hmm, I'm a little confused as well here.

I am not looking to argue with anyone, My point was simply that potentially that can happen at any show. You are just making an assumption that Cat Stevens would make this concert about politics.

I know, but it flew over Gary's head at mach 2. The old joke about rock stars is that if you want to know anything, ask them because they know everything. I have been to more than my fair share of concerts where the performers had an agenda. It never stopped from going and seeing a band I really liked for their music and not their politics.
