I've been running this shootout for a week. To my ears, the Curious USB is much more liquid and natural sounding. Removes that hint of "nervousness" that the WW Platinum 7 cables casts.

The Platinum 7 has a tiny bit more detail - so I will say it's system dependent.

For now, the Curious Cable 1.5 meter USB is staying.

Mike,

This is exactly why my WW Platinum Starlight 7 is out and the Totaldac USB cable is in. The Platinum 7 just had too much edginess in the treble for my taste. It is a transparency and resolution champ though. The Totaldac has a much more organic presentation and bigger soundstage. Not that level of transparency or resolution though. I guess it depends what your priorities are.

Best,
Ken

I remember Jim brought his Curious Cable and it sounded very liquid. I'm very happy with it.

I have both of these cables and I'm happy with both for different reasons. But Ken has given me the itch for the Totaldac cable. It is amazing how a USB cable can change the nature of the sound.

Hi Le Roy,

The Totaldac is very organic but I find myself missing that last bit of transparency and detail that the WW Platinum 7 provides. Maybe the Curious Cable is the best of both worlds. I need to try one. But my experience has been that all USB cables are a compromise in one way or another and none sound exactly right (compared to my K-01X transport) or a Lumin S1 with its internal I2S connection or a Soulution 560 with its ethernet connection.

Best,
Ken

Ken, any update on the curious USB?

I got some Curious USB cables this week and am quite pleased.

They offer good retail retrieval, a holographic soundstage and deliver nevertheless a solid bass and nice timbres. The silver cable renders highs more transparent vs. my previous copper cables, while running the 5V power coax outside the shielding for the audio signal reduces digital glare.

Aside from sonic differences has anyone noticed any differences in connectivity issues with different cables? Someone I know has a USB-connected system that can be described as "temperamental". I am wondering if it is the equipment or possibly the cable being used. I don't have details so the question is generic.

Sometimes my MacBook Air takes a little encouragement to identify a Cardas Clear USB I used to prefer, if I connect it to my music system for Amazon Prime. But that could also easily be a memory issue leading to processing slowness, as the Mac only has 4 GB of memory and my setup puts quite a load on the memory components.

Dizzie, I had a drop out problem with my other DAC and one specific USB cable in particular. Going to a different cable corrected 99% of the problem. Has he tried using a different cable?
I have since changed DAC's to a Lampizator and Curious Cables with a Regen also adding an APC power conditioner and have not experienced any drop outs.
The Curious Cables were a nice addition and have since turned several of my friends on to them and they have also purchased them.

My original USB cable was a Belkin generic 5 meter USB cable from Office Max. It was nothing more than a printer cable. It did not sound that bad but it had a nasty habit of dropping my USB connection to the DAC on a regular basis. I decided one of the issues was likely the length, the other being a generally low end cable of questionable quality for a music application. I ordered a three meter Wireworld Silver Starlight USB cable as a replacement. It is a silver clad oxygen free copper USB cable. My dropout issues ceased and the overall quality of the sound became more defined. I was impressed. I still use this USB cable with my headphone rig between my desktop PC and a Wired 4 Sound DAC2. I was pleased enough with its performance bump that I took a leap of faith and ordered a three meter Wireworld Platinum USB cable to use between my Sony Vaio laptop and the Esoteric K-03 in the studio system.

Since I now had a Wireworld Silver Starlight USB cable and a Wireworld Platinum USB cable, both in three meter lengths, I did a comparison in the studio system to see if I could identify any audible differences between the two USB cables. I discovered only a subtle performance difference between the two USB cables, with the Platinum cable delivering a slightly more tightly focused presentation. Without the opportunity to make a direct comparison between the two USB cables it is unlikely I would have ever been able to identify any differences. If you'd like, read my comparison here: Wireworld Platinum Starlight USB versus Silver Starlight USB

As the OP on this thread, I ended up going for a Siltech Royal Signature USB cable (about the same price as my WW Platinum 7). Hands down the best USB cable I've ever had. All the detail, with a smoothness and sweetness on top. Very organic sounding.

Another supposedly nice one is the PAD 30th anniversary USB. Have not tried it yet, but will soon.

With the Curious I had also to remove the W4S reclocker, the combination sounded awful, very digital in my system. Was just too much. It was ok with the lesser cables, but I guess the Curious does not need that sort of transparency amplification.

I don't know about this WW PS7 beeing harsch.. Sounds beautiful to me. But of course.. I got a tube dac and a tube pre to a SS Pass Labs. But for the money.. my previous Supra USB must be an isane bargain!! Still.. WW PS7 is another level. Very good! But.. if you are all SS.. it's conmon to chase after warmer cables so there might be anoter cable to your liking.

Welcome to the forum trainleader, thank you for joining..

Thank you!
Well.. I know it's an old thread..
Just read your posts and wanted to raise the voice for the WWPS7 again in the thread since I find it very nice. But it's most system depending as some has pointed out. I do not have the synergy of having exactly all my cables in the same brand but with different powerchords fx I can search synergy by moving them around and this time I changed powerchord in the dac and the poweramp and got a very musical approach with a very deep soundstage.
But.. both the thread and the WWPS7 cable is a couple of years old so.. there is a lot of new stuff i suppose.
The newer almost hyped cables of Anzus fx seems to go for a musical, analog feeling in the sound beside what everyone else is trying to provide like dynamics and resolution. That seems to be very popular among some SS users I know. Maybe Anzus have an USB as well.. I dont know right now.. but for me and my tubes I liked the focused good spaced soundstage, detail and blackness in WWPS7.
I can understand some of the critisism about WSPS7 beeing just a little bit stressed since its very fast and I did adjust that by changing the positions of my pc's and the synergy in warm loveliness was there again blending with all the added good characteristics of WWPS7. But if you got different electronics and no possebility to experiment with different chords.. you just might be better off with another cable.. maybe like the Thunderbolt or the Curious. :satisfying:
