And that was it.
Every once in a while I like to sell all my audio gear and start from scratch again, claiming simple is best.
It'll begin with an integrated amplifier, some small speakers, and hook-up whatever sources I might have at hand.
Add a DAC here, a power supply and phono stage there, and sell the integrated for a pre-power combo, just get that extra degree of refinement. Bigger speakers might follow, and maybe a sub-woofer too.
As so it goes. It's a fun hobby. There is no destination, just the ride. Listening to music while planning the next proposed step forward with the equipment.
I love the gadgetry of digital audio, not to mention the instant gratification with finding a song in the beat of a heart. Nothing however, treats my senses like the sound of vinyl in a smaller-sized room with no distractions.
I'm done with big listening rooms. Smaller speakers may have less slam, but they often have more character.
I'll take a quality MM cartridge over a cheap MC any day. An Ortofon 2M Black or Goldring 1042 leave me wanting for little more.
I love a good tube amp from Icon Audio or Manley, but you're more likely to find me powering my speakers with Naim Audio.
