I wish I knew what tubes came in Lampi so I could tube roll.

Darrin,

I believe you have a 6x5. Can you take a quick peek at the rear and confirm it.

I put in my Psvane Replica 101D's with the RCA VT244 JAN 5U4G. I concur with Joe, NOT a good match. Soundstage collapses.

I then replaced the RCA VT244 with the Psvane Replica 274B and left in the 101D's. Night and day difference. Very extended top end, with sweetness. I prefer the RCA VT244 with 300b's still as my fav.

Well, I am now lost in rectifier land. I grabbed a bunch of relabeled Fivre 5R4GYs the other day (double mica spacer at the top). Popped that in. Wow. I seems to me to be a step up from the U52, just slightly below the 274Bs and you can get them for a song. This was with the WE 101Ds. Will switch to the 275As over the weekend to see how that works out. They are the same construction as these: Tubes Asylum

This is by far my favorite. Original WE422a. Combined with the WE300b's it's absolutely heavenly!

Makes me wonder...are the tubes worth more than the DAC?

Yes, they are. But you need the real 274b to get all the way over the top. I have a buddy with WE 300Bs with engraved bases he is going to bring over in two weeks. I am sort of scared to hear them.

Last night, I put in a Philips 5R4GYS Made in Holland. So far, pretty amazing. I feel like I'm nose to nose with the singers. Huge sound.

I recently borrowed a Psvane 274B replica tube which was quite nice in the Lampis. I don't know if its my favorite, but I do prefer it to the EML 5u4 I had been using before it.

I've been using a Telefunken reissue GZ34 for the past week or so. For about $35, it's an amazing value and sounds great. It was a tiny bit edgy the first day or two but has since smoothed out. Big full sound.

I really need to go back and try my vintage Type 80 (Mercury filled) recti. It has 4 pins, so needs a cheap adapter.

I also have a type 83...both are 5v rectis and can be used. Cost me the princely sum of $20 in total. LoL

These Mercury vapour rectis are the favourite of Greg in the UK and a world class audio designer pal of mine.

I'll be interested in your findings, Norman. Mercury rectis have always concerned me from a safety standpoint and I've read reports of them being pretty noisy...

80 tubes are not mercury. 83 tubes are. They glow awesome. Not sure about noise, but the 83 is the base of almost all Hickok and B&K testers out there.

Hi which mercury recti is the jan cdr 1641 a mercury recti?

The 1641 is close to a 5U4, but not a direct replacement. Of course you need an adapter.
