What Vinyl Do You Have On The Table?

I have another Heroes LP that is a 1980s repressing but I wanted an original. I Purchased another Heroes LP about a month ago and it finally arrived via media mail a few days ago. The LP is a first edition on RCA records. Pristine mint condition, including the inner sleeve. Ran it through my ClearAudio Double Matrix Sonic. Sounds exquisite.

I have two David Bowie "Station to Station" Lps now. One is an original RCA pressing and the other is the commemorative box set. I have yet to play the commemorative edition.

Another used record bin find today. I guess I'm a sucker for a nice rack, plus I do like Deep Purple.

Hey guys

In need of some help here. Finally today I was able to put my TT to some good use (it's been just sitting on the shelve collecting dust) and spinning some old classical stuff as we speak.

2 questions:

A: what's the best dry method to get rid of all those pop and crackles from within the vinyl grooves?

B: how do I adjust the weight bearing/knob in the end of the arm and where should I put that little thing that hangs by a thin thread? There are 2 notches for it. I believe it's used for traction or something.....photos included.

I've had that knob at 25 most of the time and am wondering how to get an optimum setting on it.

Thanks so much guys.

Photos included.

A) The only effective way to dry clean vinyl is with a carbon fiber brush like the Hunt EDA brush or one like the Audioquest brush. Use of these will get rid of dust, but to really clean the vinyl effectively requires the use of a vacuum record cleaning machine and suitable fluids. Unfortunately such machines start at a couple of hundred dollars and go up from there.
B) The mono-filament line and weight assembly is what provides the anti-skating force on your tonearm. Using the outer groove applies more a/s while the inner groove will apply less. You can try both settings to see which sounds better. It will control effective tracking in both channels of the record groove. If you notice mistracking (distortion) in the left channel you should decrease the a/s, and if distortion is in the right channel you should increase it. If you don't really notice any difference I'd keep it on the inner groove for minimal a/s.
C) Regarding the setting of the counterweight of the tonearm (currently set to 25), that sets the tracking force and 25 means it's set at 2.5 grams if the arm is properly balanced at zero. What you need to do to balance the arm is to remove the a/s thread and turn the counterweight until you get the tonearm to balance with the stylus at the height of a record, and this is your zero balance point. Then while holding the counterweight in that position twist the numbered ring so that your zero reference point is at the top. Then when you twist the counterweight so that it moves forward (towards the pivot) past 5, to the recommended tracking force for your cartridge. i.e. if it's 2 grams you twist it until 20 is at the top, or 2.5 grams would have 25 at the top as you currently do. If you have a tracking force scale it would be advisable to check your setting, but if not it should be pretty close using the numerical setting from the counterweight.

Hope this helps!

Hey guys

What RCA interconnects would you recommend for connecting a TT to a preamp? Any decent pair of RCA cables will do or is there something more specific and specialized for turntables?

I have the pro-ject xperience Classic with the blue point II cartridge.

Thanks
